CASIO MUSIC SPACE 4+

I am using this only because I use a Casio keyboard, and because it’s free and requires no subscription. The reason I gave it 3 instead of 1 star(s) is because:

1. It’s free

2. Casio has and always will make amazing, affordable, and cool looking keyboards.

However, the music player on it really just doesn’t work. Like at all. Also, this may just be because I’m a newcomer at piano, but I can’t even play the easiest song. The easiest song has multiple chords, a fast tempo, and is very complicated and confusing. It also doesn’t have you play the notes and instead plays them for you, so you’ll never know if you played the correct note because of all the notes in front of it. I would rather start out with kindergarten grade songs like Mary had a little lamb, and then slowly up the tempo and add more complicated chords and notes until you can play some extremely complicated songs like Beethovens moonlight sonata volume 5.

I am deciding if I wanna make this 2 or 3 stars, but if I could, I would do 2.5. Overall, it doesn’t glitch too often and I love the feel of a simple little game that it gives off. It reminds me of that game called pop tropica I played when I was little. The loading screen and the transition between the main menu and the loading screen is extremely smooth. Just because of that, I have decided to give it 3 stars. The app has some major flaws but for a free app, it’s worth it. 3/5 , or 6/10.

Beautiful home screen—I wish that level of design was incorporated throughout. The user interface and menus for selecting and navigating songs is a little confusing at first.

My main issue is controlling the playback.
It’s impossible to “fine scroll” back just a little. The playback slider just wants to snap backwards in 10 second intervals, which is annoying when you only want to see/hear a few specific notes.

It would be great if I could simply drag the large window (where it shows the colored bars of upcoming keys) up and down to rewind/fast forward and also slowly scrub through a complex cluster of notes to hear each note as it passes the bottom edge of the frame.

I would also appreciate the ability to set a “start loop” and “end loop” tab anywhere in the song to isolate a small portion on repeat. I think the “A->B” icon thing is supposed to have some looping function, but it’s very cumbersome to figure out.

First off this is a good app and it looks nice and everything. However, every time I try to connect my piano via USB port to my phone the app says it doesn’t see the device. I looked at the devices compatible with this app and mine is one of them (it’s the CDP S-160). So in theory the connection should work and the app features such as the piano remote controller should work as well and unfortunately they don’t. Part of the reason I purchased this digital piano was the ability to connect to an app like this. I hope that there’s either a simple fix, or a bug fix that the developers of the app can send out to resolve this problem.
