"Catan", the legendary strategy game provides gaming fun anytime, anywhere.
True to the original game, you can compete with up to four players for the most settlements, the longest roads and the largest army. You can trade with each other and claim the precious land with all its resources.
Challenge other Catan fans online via cross-platform multiplayer to prove your strategy skills or play against the AI:
Various computer opponents, each with their own individual characteristics, will prove themselves worthy competitors: the pirate Jean, who knows no compromise, Vincent the merchant, who never allows himself to be cheated, Sean the knight, who takes what is rightfully his...
The popular Catan expansions "Seafarers", "Cities and Knights" and two new special scenarios are available as In-App purchases.
The complete Seafarers expansion includes more than 10 additional scenarios with an extensive campaign. Become Harbormaster, discover new islands and extra game elements like ships, gold fields, treasures and pirates. Ahoy!
The Cities and Knights expansion introduces various new gameplay mechanics that add even more variety to Catan. Invest new trade goods in city improvements to build one of the three metropolises of Catan – but beware of the barbarians attracted by Catan’s new wealth! You’ll need your best knights to fend them off! C&K contains a short campaign and 7 challenging maps.
Exciting adventures await you in the two new scenarios "Enchanted Land" and "The Great Canal". Vanquish dragons and bag their treasures or build a canal to help barren grain fields bloom once more.

Question: An expansion seems gone after an update or reinstallation of Catan or after restoring the device?
Answer: Don’t worry, your initial purchase is already saved in your iTunes account. You can restore your InApp purchases by selecting the restore-option in the Catan IAP menu.
Question: I lost my campaign progress after reinstalling, updating or restoring my device. Is there any way to restore it?
Answer: When saved games can’t be automatically restored, we’ve integrated a cheat code: In the campaign mode go to select player and enter "CatanWarp*" (* = 1–15) as your player name and confirm. Exit the game via the home button and restart it. The campaign can now be continued from the specified level number (1–15). Levels up to the specified number will be unlocked in the custom game mode as well.
Question: Are dice rolls really random?
Answer: Of course! All dice rolls are 100% random and not modified in any way. We’re avid Catan players ourselves. We’ve played the iOS version hundreds of times while developing the program. There have been times when we won and lost a few games in a row because of the dice - just like when playing the board game!

Ratings and Reviews
There are a few glitches, really big glitches that make some of the scenarios frustrating. For instance...sometimes the toolbar completely disappears when you play a progress card. And pretty much 100% of the time it will crash after finishing a game and you start a new one. Either of those situations forces a reboot of the game. If they'd fix those, it would be great. Overall though, it's a very good port of the game, and still well worth playing even with all the issues.
As for the dice randomness bias complaints: I have not seen this. The die roll the same throughout the game. However, what does happen is the game naturally gets way more aggressive towards the end, even IRL. Opponents have more progress cards and they gang up on you. They get seriously cut-throat towards anyone who's either leading or within a few points of victory. The AI performs this very well. I think that everyone crying about dice bias needs to stop sniveling and get competitive when the game gets tough. The only weird AI flaw that doesn't reflect a real life game is... If the AI is winning and they're within a few points of victory, the other AI opponents will still trade with them. In my experience playing IRL, this nearly never happens. Nobody in their right mind will help another player win the game.
Expert is rigged; user interface could be improved; constant crashes
First of all, where is the Pirates and Explorers Expansion???? Or Traders and Barbarians?
The expert level is a game of 3 against 1. No question about it. The computer absolutely refuses any trades. I offered 19 items for any one item, and the computer refused every offer. I was losing the game already and wanted to see what would happen.
The robber never left my hexes unless I moved it away myself. I never roll a 7 when the robber is on my hex. Never.
The user interface needs to be updated too. I would like to be able to see my menu items before making a choice regarding resources given or taken. I need to know how many settlements I have left versus cities. That would help me decide between taking a wheat or a brick.
And what's with the constant crashing? We never lose anything, but the game requires constant restarts. Sometimes, you can't see the menu, or something else quirky happens.
Otherwise, it's a great game to hone my skills while waiting to raise a game with my friends.
Please consider the updates, and this will become the best game on the iPad.
Edit: seems the latest version is very stable. Hasn’t crashed yet. Still waiting on expansions to be added.
IPad Pro 9" and game freezes
Update October 8, 2017, For about a month this game was working well. Development cards were working. With the upgrade of iOS 11 the development cards do not work. Very frustrating. Until it is fixed save your money.
One of my favorite board games to play, however about every third game the board freezes and I cannot use the accept check or the cancel cross symbols nor lay a road in the lower part of the game board even though the road is highlighted that this is an option. The only way I can continue the game is to force the app close and start all over again. Annoying - Update March 2017, I am developing additional bugs since i purchased the additional cities and knights for 9.99. The Progress cards due not work and cause the game to freeze. Also i have played an entire game with only one progress card while the computer players recieve many. And of course the seven is rolled way to often. I love this game and sincerely wish the developer USM, would fix all the bugs. So as of today I have gone from a 3 to a 2 star rating.
