"Catan", the legendary strategy game provides gaming fun anytime, anywhere.
True to the original game, you can compete with up to four players for the most settlements, the longest roads and the largest army. You can trade with each other and claim the precious land with all its resources.
Challenge other Catan fans online via cross-platform multiplayer to prove your strategy skills or play against the AI:
Various computer opponents, each with their own individual characteristics, will prove themselves worthy competitors: the pirate Jean, who knows no compromise, Vincent the merchant, who never allows himself to be cheated, Sean the knight, who takes what is rightfully his...
The popular Catan expansions "Seafarers", "Cities and Knights" and two new special scenarios are available as In-App purchases.
The complete Seafarers expansion includes more than 10 additional scenarios with an extensive campaign. Become Harbormaster, discover new islands and extra game elements like ships, gold fields, treasures and pirates. Ahoy!
The Cities and Knights expansion introduces various new gameplay mechanics that add even more variety to Catan. Invest new trade goods in city improvements to build one of the three metropolises of Catan – but beware of the barbarians attracted by Catan’s new wealth! You’ll need your best knights to fend them off! C&K contains a short campaign and 7 challenging maps.
Exciting adventures await you in the two new scenarios "Enchanted Land" and "The Great Canal". Vanquish dragons and bag their treasures or build a canal to help barren grain fields bloom once more.

Question: An expansion seems gone after an update or reinstallation of Catan or after restoring the device?
Answer: Don’t worry, your initial purchase is already saved in your iTunes account. You can restore your InApp purchases by selecting the restore-option in the Catan IAP menu.
Question: I lost my campaign progress after reinstalling, updating or restoring my device. Is there any way to restore it?
Answer: When saved games can’t be automatically restored, we’ve integrated a cheat code: In the campaign mode go to select player and enter "CatanWarp*" (* = 1–15) as your player name and confirm. Exit the game via the home button and restart it. The campaign can now be continued from the specified level number (1–15). Levels up to the specified number will be unlocked in the custom game mode as well.
Question: Are dice rolls really random?
Answer: Of course! All dice rolls are 100% random and not modified in any way. We’re avid Catan players ourselves. We’ve played the iOS version hundreds of times while developing the program. There have been times when we won and lost a few games in a row because of the dice - just like when playing the board game!

There are a few glitches, really big glitches that make some of the scenarios frustrating. For instance...sometimes the toolbar completely disappears when you play a progress card. And pretty much 100% of the time it will crash after finishing a game and you start a new one. Either of those situations forces a reboot of the game. If they'd fix those, it would be great. Overall though, it's a very good port of the game, and still well worth playing even with all the issues.
As for the dice randomness bias complaints: I have not seen this. The die roll the same throughout the game. However, what does happen is the game naturally gets way more aggressive towards the end, even IRL. Opponents have more progress cards and they gang up on you. They get seriously cut-throat towards anyone who's either leading or within a few points of victory. The AI performs this very well. I think that everyone crying about dice bias needs to stop sniveling and get competitive when the game gets tough. The only weird AI flaw that doesn't reflect a real life game is... If the AI is winning and they're within a few points of victory, the other AI opponents will still trade with them. In my experience playing IRL, this nearly never happens. Nobody in their right mind will help another player win the game.
Workarounds make it less of a dogpile on "Hard"setting
A fun game that I go back to despite some of the frustrations already cited by others--non-random rolls and 3 against 1 on the hard setting, etc. One other machine advantage allows the computer to dislodge a robber with a knight that was just activated, whereas you the player have to wait until the next round. THAT has been a source of frustration. I haven't done the deep analysis--and it may be user bias--but it also feels suspiciously non-random how often your numbers come up immediately following a robber being set on your hex.
Changing the dice setting to Stack 5 (a distributed set of pre-rolls that are then randomized with 5 combos removed) makes for a much less frustrating rolling experience rolls.
All in all, I enjoy this implementation. Some welcome additions would include new maps (please!), user designed map (see first request), and support for the other expansion.
App has major glitches, and sound problems on iPad Pro 10.5 inch
I have experienced a long-standing glitch on this app for the last two years. When I click the button to purchase a development card, the development card screen shows me which resources it takes to purchase it, not how many cards are left on the stack as it once had done. The only clue I have as to how many development cards are left, is when I am rudely told "There are no more development cards", when I try to purchase one and after I have carefully traded to get the resources to buy a card. Several updates from the developer have failed to repair this situation. BTW, I am running the latest version of iOS 10, just a couple of weeks here before the big September 2017 iPhone announcement.
Moreover, now that I have upgraded my iPad Pro 9.7 to an iPad Pro 10.5, all sound and music has disappeared from the app. The app is now totally silent no matter which settings I change. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, to no avail.
