Serving urban centers as diverse as London, Lyon, Boston, and Tokyo, Citymapper aims to make city travel as stress-free as possible. And, rather brilliantly, it manages it. Plugging in a desired destination (“home” and “work” can be saved, usefully) serves up every imaginable method of getting there, including a nice Uber sync-up. It also displays costs, live departure times, duration, and calories. Our favorite feature, however? The option to discover how long it’d take to get where you’re going by jetpack and teleportation. One day, Citymapper. One day.

  • Amazing and very helpful!!

This app is absolutely incredible as somebody who is only visited now my second time I’m able to navigate the subways and buses and where to walk correctly and where I need to go at the click of a button. It gives you options on like quickest routes and options for different types of subways based on your preferences. I highly recommend for first time visitors.

  • Best city app

I’ve tried multiple different transit apps and this is the best. I’ve used it in Chicago, Boston, and New York. Tracks delays in real time and tells you what part of the platform to stand at (front, back, etc) for the exit you want. The only thing it could do better is that when there’s no train service and the MTA is running a shuttle bus between stations, it doesn’t seem to know about it.

  • When Applemaps fails me I go for this

I am on the bus and subway many times a day all over the Bronx and Manhattan. I often have weird loads due to Plein air painting and urban sketching so finding routes with fewer steps is a priority. I like the way that Citymapper gives me lots of options especially when the buses don’t run as promised or I have to make a quick change of plans.

  • Absolutely essential

If you are trying to get your bearings in a new city, that has many different ways to get around and any semblance of a public transportation system, and you’re looking for an app that can just tell you all the information in one place WITH LIVE UPDATES and allows you to customize routes, look no further.

  • Always gets me places fast

    Charles Kerman

I switched to Citymapper from Apple Maps for transit on a trip to Europe, and Citymapper has almost always had faster directions. I also love how it can tell which exit from a station is best to use. My only complaint is that it can be really confusing on bigger stations and not give any directions to your platform, so I sometimes get lost in new places

  • Love this App!!

    THIS IS AN AWESOME VPN

I absolutely love this app! It takes me from where I am to where I need to go with relatively accurate information on bus times. I love the variety of ways it allows you to choose from as well. The only reason it is 4 stars instead of 5, is due to the fact of there not being a lot of coverage in smaller cities. Other than that, it does an amazing job!

  • Accurate and user friendly

I love using this app. I first used this when I was in Paris in 2024 and then learned it works in DC and other U.S. cities. I love that one app will update to the city you’re in and show you different options so you can see if walking, public transportation or another method is faster. Highly recommend!

  • Interesting segment combos, none of which i’ve chosen

    John Lam

Citymapper usually offers me route choices, none of which i’ve chosen or would choose, partly because i must bicycle to the closest transit stop or station. This usually requires i guess which transit stop feels best or querying two, three, or four choices, then computing and comparing them.Letting me select my first or last mile connecting modes would help.

  • Great accurate app

    Sisiluv

This app has made my journey through and around NYC much better. I always knew the number lines I grew up by but always got a little confused with letter train line routes. So this app helps me find my way accurately with synced times to help. I’d literally be lost without Citymapper. You won’t regret downloading this app!

  • Must have for city travel

I always recommend city mapper to folks coming into town to visit, and even to friends and neighbors who aren’t yet in the know. Having all the available options with time estimates makes getting around the city so much more efficient.
