TC is a full-featured communication solution for individuals who have difficulty using their natural voice. TC is designed for individuals with Autism, Down Syndrome, ALS, apraxia, stroke, or other conditions that affect a person's ability to use natural speech.

This version of TC is bundled with the WordPower™ series of AAC vocabularies designed by Nancy Inman. WordPower is a word-based vocabulary that allows for easy and intuitive communication, while WordPower with Phrases incorporates phrases for easier language generation.

TC HD with WordPower includes both English and Spanish options in a universal app supporting iPhone®, iPod touch® and iPad®. Additional languages such as Canadian French, Hebrew and Arabic can be purchased in the Upgrade Store.

TC fits into the category of assistive technology known as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and includes features that were previously only available in much more expensive dedicated devices. Words, phrases and messages are spoken with a built-in voice synthesizer or by playing a recorded message. Various synthesized and custom voice options are available, allowing the user to choose a voice that fits their own personality.
TC also has a unique feature whereby one can simply tilt the device to make the message expand to fill the screen in large letters. This feature allows a person to communicate silently or in a noisy environment.
TC gives an individual the ability to navigate through page sets and speak messages. Page sets are linked pages, each of which is divided into a number of buttons. The buttons are programmed to have specific actions, such as speaking a message, navigating to a different page, changing the volume or clearing the display.
Various page sets are included with TC: VocabPC, MultiChat15, Spelling, and Communication Journey: Aphasia are available in both English and Spanish options, myQuickChat©, MyCore, and 4 Basic are available in English, while Sintaxis and Sin Sintaxis files are available in Spanish. Each page set targets individuals with different communication needs. Additional English page sets including Gateway©, Pixon™60 and Talk About AAC are available as in-app purchases.

Text generated with TC pages can be shared on social media or via iMessage® and email using a wireless connection. Generate a message, push on the text window and choose a service. Additionally, text can be copied to/from TC and other applications so it can be spoken out loud.

The pages, grid layout, buttons, messages, and symbols are fully customizable. Buttons can be copied and pasted into a different location or rearranged by simply dragging them to the desired new location. The styling of a button (colors, borders, fonts) can also be copied and pasted into another button.

Provided page sets can be modified to create new custom page sets. Select from over 45 button actions and nearly 40,000 Symbolstix® symbols* when creating new buttons. You can also choose to use an existing image or take a photo with the built-in camera. Additionally, gestures can be used to navigate to new pages, speak messages, etc.

*Please note: PCS© symbols can only be used in TC after an in-app purchase is completed.

Button activation timing can be adjusted to meet the needs and capabilities of the user. Adjustments include button dwell time and button release time. Buttons can also be configured to activate on release.

Users can program buttons to play audio files such as music from the media library or videos from the device or a YouTube™ link.

Once programming is complete, be sure to protect custom files. Vocabulary files can be imported and exported to a computer through iTunes® file sharing, DropBox™ or Google Drive™. TC also enables users to subscribe to iShare and store custom files for safe keeping (not available to customers residing in the European Union).

Update crashes

April 12, 2015
After updating - iShare not allowing me to upload my files into the iShare account that I paid the membership to use for storing the vocabulary files.

- I was very pleased to see it is now universal update for same app for iPhone, iPad and iPod. Thank you!
Now what we use at home will look the same as what the school uses.

Current TouchChat update crashes with recent iPhone update. Currently not able to use on the device with current updates.

March 17, 2014
Recent iTunes software update resulted with airplane mode icon and time to stay visible on text line within the TouchChat on iPad2 but not on other more current Apple devices. Please fix with update or post how I can fix on my iPad2 if there is something I need to adjust in my settings. Thank you!
They fixed the issues from the end of June 29, 2013 update. Thank you!

Very happy with the product.
I hope they will consider lowering or eliminating the iShare cost that allows users to have access to a file sharing community of TouchChat users to share vocabulary files, because the more we share of the creative pages we create the more options become available to the users in need of the communication device.
Users can still save their own vocabulary files on their own computer at no additional cost, but the iShare membership allows you to give and receive by downloading from the iShare files with other users that select to share. It is my understanding when you first purchase the TouchChat with WordPower the iShare membership is provided at no additional cost for a limited time, but then if you wish to continue the membership you need to buy the membership as an upgrade.
Prior review:
Great app- very easy to customize

We first purchased Proloquo2Go and then were introduced to the TouchChat with WordPower app. Very expensive - but worth it.
I wish the iShare membership fee was less, because I think if it was priced less more people (families) would maintain their membership which would ultimately allow for more sharing of materials between families to allow the app to hopefully stay being considered by many parents as the best app for communication tools within the iPad / iPod / iPhone device community. Right now with the price for iShare membership (online option for sharing vocabulary files and pages with others families) some families I know are not able to participate due to limited resources as families with special needs children which pushed them to return to other communication options provided to them at no charge by the school system. I believe, based on what I have seen happen with three families in my community, you are losing customers to dedicated communication devices provided by schools (at no charge to families) by having the continued iShare membership at the current price. Yes, I am aware files can be transferred over the home computer without the iShare membership, but it doesn't allow for sharing with other families like the iShare membership allows.
