After trying MANY, Clean Email is the BEST!

I never write reviews for Apps, but this email program absolutely compelled me to do so! Truly, I had downloaded at least 5 other programs that work on computer and mobile (FYI, I tried Spark, Newton, Edison, Canary) in an effort to seamlessly and efficiently keep up with my personal Gmail and my work Outlook accounts -- this is the only program that gave me what I was looking for. The program makes it so simple and intuitive to filter messages from senders that you don't need to see, whether they are new or old, and get effectively organized. Kudos to the developers, well done and THANK YOU!

Not worth the money - and not worth 1 star!

I was looking for a "clean email" application maintained on Mac (after years using an application available now only on mobiles). The price was moderate and the reviews decent. The trial for 1000 mails was not good enough as I have many requested and unrequested subscriptions and wanted mostly to use it to "unroll" them.
I paid the subscription and went on using it.
To my surprise, after marking many e-mails for unsubscribe I was surprised not find an "apply" button at the end. I knew I am introuble - and my inbox was flooded with messages with "user does not exist on our listserver" (as the subscription was cancelled by the first unsubscbe). I have many years of working as a computing specialist and shouldn't have been surprised by an application of poor quality - but the praise in reviews was unqualified and I did not follow the negative reviews (the ones I looks first usually). The makers did also refuse to refund me (although refund requests made in less tha 14 days are legally mandatory in many countries). This application is not worth even the 1 star the Appstore mandates.

We are sorry if your experience with our email service didn’t work as expected. Our service also includes a 7 days trial for all automated features and payment was not necessary to try the Unsubscriber. It is hard for us to say what happened there as we do not have enough details, but currently our Unsubscriber does not have a way of making multiple selections before applying an action. For each sender listed in the Unsubscriber, the user must individually choose if want to Unsubscribe or keep in Inbox (other options are also available). It is not possible to select more senders to unsubscribe from as that would make it easy to overlook important senders and unsubscribe by mistake.

The notifications emails you received were likely not because you were already unsubscribed (that is possible too, but our system can not know that) but because the senders you tried to unsubscribe from were using invalid emails for receiving unsubscribe requests. Some rogue newsletters do that especially so that users can not unsubscribe, some other emails are invalid for various reasons. Either way, all email servers will return a delivery failed notification when emails are sent to an invalid address.

We regret you haven't given our support a chance to explain what may have happened there and the causes of your issues. The terms of our service (including the refund terms) and publicly listed on the website and within the limit of the law.

Do Not Reccommed

The app does not work as advertised. Its is not user friendly - I am a compuational scientist, and do not believe this is user error. App does not effectively unsubscribe from email accounts. In fact, in subscribes you to multiple daily emails from clean mail.

Customer service was as useless as the app. Could not resolve issues, or issue a refund. Customer service rep was condescending, and rude.

Would not reccommend unless you have copious amounts of time to sort through emails, and toy around with a janky app.

The tact of your response is a good representation of the condescending and rude tone the customer service representative used. Thanks for making that clear to future purchasers.

I was told "If you’re having issues with this app, please contact the app’s developer directly" by apple which is why I contacted clean email. That is actually taken from the same page you linked, Kyryl. I appologize for bothering you, Kyryl.

Finally, I absolutely did not threaten anyone or anything. In fact, I said "I have not yet posted a review of the service, but will do so after working with customer service on this.", because as a high-volume online purchaser reviews are important to me, and customer service can be a redeeming factor. I may have given 2-3 stars for clean email, had I dealt with a great customer service representitive. Again, this was not a threat.

Kyryl here, founder of Clean Email. After reading your review I went through your exchange with our support.

First, let me address your claim that the app does not work as advertised. We do not ever advertise or promise to send "unsubscribe" requests. In fact, we explain our approach multiple times (during your initial scan, right on top of the Unsubscriber screen, and in a support article our representative sent you in response to your original email.) There are multiple reasons for this approach but most of email cleaning applications work in the same way because this is the only way to actually make sure that you are no longer seeing emails you do not want to be seeing. It's not in the marketers' best interest to allow you to unsubscribe easily and there's no way software like Clean Email can go through multi-step unsubscribe process with CAPTCHAs, arbitrary field names etc.

Second, that is correct — our support cannot issue refunds for purchases made in the Mac App Store or the App Store. It is widely known that Apple does not provide developers with any means to control subscriptions or issue refunds - which as I can see he explained to you in your exchange. And third, in no way our support representative was rude or condescending. I went through your exchange twice trying to understand what made you think that. But all I am seeing is you threatening to write a review if a refund is not issued. As I mentioned above, we cannot.
