太陽の位置により方位を知ることのできる時計です。太陽のマークがついている短針を太陽の方向に向けます

北半球では時計の短針を太陽に向け12時の位置との中間が南を指します

磁石が指す磁北と真北には誤差があります。このコンパスは真北を指す設定です。磁北から見た真北の差が偏角です

地球の動きは太陽に対し一定では無いため均時差が発生します。南中時刻は、2月は14分位遅く、11月は16分位早くなります

例えば、日本の時刻は東経135度に合わせているので正午に太陽が真南に来るのは明石市付近です。東経135度以外の地域では1度につき4分の差が出ます

方角がわかっているときは、針を方角に合わせることにより太陽の位置を知る事ができます（逆引き）
