How to Use Collective

When Collective is running, a "C" will appear in the top-right of your menu bar. Pressing Command-Shift-V will show Collective's history of what you have copied (alternatively, you can click the "C" in the menu bar). Clicking on any item will add it back to your clipboard, so you can paste it again.

Note that for security reasons Collective is not able to paste directly, but rather your selected item is added back to the clipboard for you to paste. Further, due to a limitation with internal clipboards, Collective can not keep a full history for Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). Collective can, however, be used to paste into these applications.

What’s New

Version 2.0.2

Collective 2 is Here! ● Favorites ● Shortcuts ● Detail Bar ● Menu Bar ● Performance ● Refinements ● Bug Fixes

Favorites: Mark a clipping as a favorite and Collective will store it forever, no matter how large your clipping history grows. Filter by your favourites for quick access to clippings you regularly use.

Shortcuts: Your first 9 favorites are easily added to the clipboard with a simple 1-9 key press. You can also quickly mark / unmark a clipping as a favorite ('M') or filter by favourites ('F').

Detail Bar: Collective now shows you the line count, character count, image dimension, or file size for your selected clipping.

Menu Bar: the menu bar icon now directly activates Collective, or you can choose to fully hide the menu bar icon itself to save space. Preferences and other options have been moved to the Details Bar.

Performance: Collective now uses less power when both idle and active, but yet is also more responsive than ever.

Refinements: Collective's look has been tweaked in the spirit of recent OS updates, and polished throughout. We think it's the best looking version yet

Bug Fixes: a lot of small and not-so-small bugs have been squashed. In particular Collective now plays much more nicely with Spaces, Expose, TextExpander, and various other clipboard-altering applications.

Version 2.0.1 fixes an issue related to setting the clipboard history size to 2500.
Version 2.0.2 fixes an issue where Collective occasionally stops retrieving items from the clipboard, and also adds options to not ignore passwords and/or temporary items.

Best clipboard organizer yet

Due to its uninformative name and icon, of all the apps that came up when I searched “clipboard manager”, this was the very last I looked at. So glad I didn’t miss it, though, because it’s the only one that does most of what I wanted. And it does it really well—I’ve told all my co-workers about it, and I work in an iOS app dev business, so I don’t go around promoting apps unless they’re solid!
One feature I’d love to see is the ability to drag items to reorder them in my list, but the filtering and search functions mean it’s still easy to find what I want.
A slight bug: If you have the setting at 1 click to select an item in your list, and you’ve used the search tool, the cursor remains in the search box on subsequent views, so I can’t use the arrow keys to move through the selections in order to delete clips I don’t want.
Know that using a tool like this gives you amazing control. I couldn’t live without it almost instantly, and it’s saved my bacon more than once. It’s a HUGE timesaver, too. You need to be committed to cleaning it out regularly or it can get huge quickly, though that’s just a housekeeping issue.
It successfully does not copy files from 1Password, after I added that application to the blacklist.
Also, I have restarted it and it has crashed once, but I didn’t lose even the most recent clips.
Add that feature request and then it’s a solid 5!

Works as expected, nice app to have

I installed this app today and am thinking it will get a lot of use. I launched the app from Launchpad, the “C” appeared in my menubar, and the app immediately picked up the last thing that was copied to the clipboard. I tested a few items in a text editor and the app seems to work as expected. One feature that I didn’t realise this app had was that you can drag an item from the Collective history list and drop it into a text editor - works like a charm. I quit the app, re-launched it, and the history list was retained. I like that this app has a blacklist, so I added my password manager to the blacklist and Collective did not copy anything from the password manager - an excellent feature! The website listed for this app contains a feature list, a FAQ, and a link to obtain support. I really like this app, it works as expected, and the price was right. Thank you!

Click-to-Paste Doesn’t Work - Update

Keeps snippets and images on the clipboard but neither option to paste after clicking works. Nothing happens. I tried both single and double clicking to paste with zero results. I liked the idea of keeping images on the clipboard instead of just text, but I guess I’ll go back to my old clipboard manager. :(

Edit: This non-fuctional behavior is due to Apple’s Sandboxing limitations. This pretty much makes this app pointless except for keeping a clip history which Alfred does already, as does a myriad of other apps. The only bonus this one has is that it keeps images on the clipboard and most others don’t. Shame that this functionality is gutted.
