Get the right white balance setting for your camera and measure your LED lights.
Color temperature measurement in real-time, with calibration for outstanding accuracy.
Have you ever experienced that the colors of your photos does not correspond to the colors of the scenes in front of you? Let this app help you to get more realistic and better looking photos!
This app measures the color temperature of the lighting so that you can set the appropriate white balance setting on your camera. You can also use it to measure the Kelvin temperature on LED lamps and other light sources. The app also supports basic green / magenta tint measurement (also known as Duv measurement). There is also a real-time calculation of what CTO or CTB filter/gel to put on your flash light to match the measured color temperature.
What is Color Temperature?
Color temperature is a characteristic of visible light that measures the hue of light from a light source. Color temperatures are usually measured in Kelvin (K). Low color temperatures (below 3000 K) are called warm colors (red and yellowish white) while high color temperatures (above 5000 K) are called cool colors (blueish white). Technically the color temperature is the temperature of an ideal black-body radiator that radiates light of comparable hue to that of the light source.
When is Color Temperature Important?
Color temperatures are of special interest in all kinds of color photography. The human eye easily compensates for the color temperature of different light sources. Most cameras today have a feature called Automatic White Balance, AWB, which tries to do the same. In some conditions this works OK, in other conditions the results are poor. Many photographers therefore prefer to manually set the white balance value on the camera to match the color temperature of the current scene. With this application you can measure the color temperature before doing the white balance setting on you camera to get a more accurate setting.
You can also use this app to learn about the color temperatures in your environment. With this knowledge you can develop a better understanding of how the color temperatures varies which helps you when you are trying to master the light and colors in your photography.
How Accurate are the Measurements?
To measure the color temperature accurately is more complex than it might appear. On a phone or tablet this is complicated further by the fact that all devices are different from each other. Uncalibrated values from the app can be seen as fairly good approximations. But with the use of calibration supported in this app and a proper white surface evenly lit by the light source you are measuring, you can usually get good accuracy.

Ratings and Reviews
Very well conceived and designed!
I struggled to find an intuitive and well designed White Balance Kevin Meter.
Either they didn’t work, wouldn’t scale properly for my screen size or lacked a camera preview window, to be 100% sure if what readings I was really taking. (What was the camera actually aimed at?).
This app checks all the boxes of elegant, fast, scalable, accurate and highly intuitive.
The only challenge I had was not fully understanding the need to use a piece of paper to sample the reflected light from - and came to see that using a piece of paper either as a diffuser (hold over lens) or as a reflective surface to be used with one’s light source, balances out the readings very nicely.
I’m not a Photographer, but wanted to measure the Light Temperature of some very obnoxious Street Lights which are well over 5,000 Kelvin - far above the AMA’s guideline of them being under 3,000 Kelvin (even lower is better 2,200 to 2,700 even).
The Developer couldn’t be better. Super kind, responsive and skilled.
Very satisfied and highly recommend this effective and elegant app!
I’ve found this to be a very accurate meter for color temperature, I tested against various light bulbs where I knew the exact color temp and it was spot on. I also appreciate the measurement of color tint, which was a big part of why I downloaded this app, I am looking at ways to incorporate that into my photo adjustments. The flash filter recommendations may also come in handy too.
Developer Response ,
Thanks a lot for your 5-star review - it is very much appreciated! Happy to hear that the measurements are spot on and that you find the new tint measurement as well as the new flash filter recommendation useful! Please do not hesitate to contact me at email@example.com if you have any ideas on how to improve the app further or add more features. Thanks again for using my app!
Well designed and well executed. Works as well as my Minolta color meter. Purchased the lifetime license. Hope you never have to go to a full subscription license like one of the popular film apps has recently done. Thanks for a well designed product.
