Needs at least some kind of documentation

3 stars is a total guess since I can’t easily tell if the app is working. The interface is easy to understand and use. The app produces a nice, colorful screen . . . and therein lies the problem. There is no information anywhere about what any of those colors mean. I’m assuming green means these match so you don’t have to look at them, red means you need to look at these and orange means . . . something else. But it would be very nice to *know*, not just trust my assumptions.

Honestly folks, how hard can simple documentation to explain the screen colors be? Not even how-to-use documentation. It’s easy to figure that out. Just how to interpret the output.

UPDATED: Troubling UX

One extra star for a cool, simple theory. It sure would beat scrolling through the results of a diff -qr.

It was working, and I clicked on the little arrow to open a file location in the Finder. The app hung. I forced-quit the app, then tried to restart it. Now it hangs at start-up.

UPDATE: Okay, I’ll chalk all that up to the flaky unsupported writeable-NTFS driver. But now the app starts up but refuses to look at anything for me. It’s as though it restarts or continues the last failing scan every time it’s restarted. I can’t keep rebooting my laptop every time I need to run the app. That’s the reason I switched from Windows! ;-)

Not up to date

I purchased this app in a moment of weakness back in the dats of El Capitan (you can do the same thing with diff in recursive mode for free at the command line) but the developer is not maintaining the app properly. With High Sierra, it will show differences everywhere when two directories are in fact similar and even fails to get basic file information (shows 0 bytes file size for all files). It was fun back when it worked (although it was already over priced) and should be taken down from the app store since it no longer works correctly. This really makes me think twice now when buying simple utilities from individual developers who offer no guarantee to keep their app up to date.
