MAKE APPLE CARPLAY APP
For some reason, my brand new Honda doesnt come with a compass. A built in compass in a car is essential for traveling with no directions. If there were an Apple CarPlay app, I would be able to see which direction im going with a tap of my finger. I know most cars come with it, but the Hondas dont for some reason, even in 2022. I think it would be great to be able to check my direction by tapping the app in my dashboard while im driving. Much easier than having to illegally use my phone to see it. Nothing is scarier than driving in an unfamiliar rural area (possibly with no cell signal) and not knowing whether youre headed north, south, east or west. Thats why its essential for the directionally challenged, or the avid traveler/explorer. By the way, the navigation apps dont show a compass on CarPlay either. Only on the phone when its disconnected from the car. If you dont want to make a specific compass app for CarPlay, at least let us see it in Apple Maps or Waze on the dash.
I used to love this app
I don’t know what going on but I used to use this app all the time but now for some reason it’s not responding what so ever. I’ll remove the app and all the data then redownload it. It does ask me to calibrate, when before it would often have me recalibrate. The compass won’t move at all. Says I’m pointing north at all times. It shows that city I’m in but that’s it. It won’t tell me what direction I’m facing at all. Help! I fit. Understand what’s happening. All my location services are on. The system service are on the calibration is on. I thought maybe it was my service area but everyone else’s phone who has the same carrier has no problem using their compass. I have no idea what’s happening. It would be nice to be able to manually select an option to recalibrate or something.
Does Not Point to True North - Not Accurate
When calibration is checked against a known bearing, it varies greatly around a 360 degree compass check course. It is fine to use when figuring out the general direction, but I don’t recommend it for serious navigation when accuracy matters. Certainly not for marine navigation - you’ll run yourself aground, or worse! I’m quite surprised and disappointed that Apple would let this by. I recommend free compass apps available here in the Apple App Store, such as Commander Compass. Most can be upgraded for a minor subscription fee. All should be “calibration checked” against a known True North bearing before considering for use in serious navigation.
