Copilot: Track & Budget Money ٤+

So far, Copilot has been a life changer for me! Mind you, I have only been using it for a week, and I haven't used all of its features, but this piece of software is definitely for people like me who don't follow their expenses and dread the tax returns period! Copilot is crazy easy to set up, the dashboard gives you a great overview of what matters the most, you can edit, create, modify your categories (I strongly suggest that you follow the same categories as the IRS), you can connect all of your accounts, including your savings accounts in no time, and this little feature that allows you to click on an expense and Copilot retrieves all similar expenses so that you can add them to the same category and add tags is amazing! And it works both on iPhone and Mac! It almost makes it fun to do your taxes!

Although it initially seemed promising, Copilot soon fell off of grace with constant syncing issues with my AMEX bank accounts dragging for months. The support team is friendly but couldn't do more than gaslight me and finger-point at Plaid and Google, apparently the backbone of the whole app, and ignored reported issues like years-long deleted account registries and other syncing issues. Ignoring problems and complaints is not an acceptable solution. Other than category logging, the usual reports, trends, reminders, and forecasts are missing. The iOS and Mac OS apps are buggy with input lag, unresponsiveness, and sometimes even reverting transactions and other actions without an apparent reason. Manual accounts do not allow for retroactive registry logging, causing persistent erroneous analyses and reports (like loan accounts, for example). Although it has a fresh, visually neat, hands-off approach to finance tracking, it is a shallow application lacking basic features and unreliable tracking of my bank accounts. With a new subscription price over $90, it is impossible to recommend Copilot compared to the competition's feature set and prices. Unfortunately, I wasted a full-year subscription to learn this in the first person. I hope this helps you avoid the mistake I made.

This is a great option as long as you start with transactions for your budget today or over the past 3 months to today. If you want to start at the beginning of the year or the start of a month that is the third month even, you are not able to do that by simplying exporting transactions from your bank in a simple csv for example and importing them into Copilot.. they don't offer an import function at all other than for the former Mint customers wanting to switch over... that is a HUGE gap of basic functionality that makes this app a BIG NO GO for me! If they get this functionality incorporated into their product, I might reconsider... still lacks features I'd like to have in category granular customization for organizing my categories as well. There was also an issue with Plaid and my bank organization where I had to constantly needed to reverify my bank connection.. didn't seem to have that issue with others I was evaluating... not sure if that is Copilot, Plaid or the bank though... just didn't work for me if I need to constantly "re-verify" and the latest transactions still did not come through.
