Expressing your emotions can be hard. It can be easier if you make music! Cove is trusted by doctors and therapists as a safe and secure way to look after your mental health.

• First SCROLL pick a mood that helps you frame your mood
• Then TAP to add chords, melody or even percussion
• You can SWIPE to change instruments - there’s over 30 to choose from
• Explore and be creative - there is no right or wrong way to make music!

We believe Cove has a role to play in improving emotional and mental health by encouraging self-expression. We believe Cove is especially good if you experience anxiety or depression.

Cove can be used any time, but may be most useful when you find it difficult to express yourself through other means, such as talking or writing. You can use Cove whenever you feel like it. You can make music by yourself, or share what you make with others.

We think it is important that any app that advertises about mental health takes it seriously.

That is why Cove has been tested, evaluated, and trialed in health services in the UK, and has been created in collaboration with clinicians and other specialists.

Cove primarily uses music instead of words to express a feeling or mood, and so it may be helpful in conjunction with talking therapies and counselling. Cove is not a substitute for professional therapy, and not suitable for those experiencing severe distress or suicidal thoughts. If you find yourself really struggling, in the app there are helpful links to organisations who can help you. Don't be afraid to reach out to someone.

Cove helps me relax take a few minutes for myself on creating sounds that I can later hear again. Creating your own therapeutic music and save it in your own library!

I use this app to help me when I am ruminating on something, especially negative things. I make a little Cove song about it and it makes my mind a little light, a little easier to move. I love the minimal, intuitive interface, and it provides an interesting array of sounds to play with.

Really enjoyed the ease with which I can capture an emotion I am feeling at the moment.

WHAT THE PRESS HAVE SAID of the best mental health apps.
(The Guardian)

Cove is a journaling app that upends what you’d expect from a journaling app.

For people who struggle with anxiety or just find it hard to even determine their own moods, melodies can prove a useful tool of expression.
(The Next Web)

We all struggle with our mental health sometimes, some more than others. We made Cove because we’ve experienced problems in the past. If you’ve found Cove useful, please tell others or leave a review.

more emotions would be nice?

i absolutely love this app and the music it helps me make. whenever im upset or in a weird mood and can't get any work done, i hope on cove and make something. it works wonderfully. my only complaint is that the list of emotions it shows for the feelings and journal part are a little limited and somewhat repetitive. For example including alone and lonely seems a bit repetitive. the list of emotions is mostly negative ones which hinders the journal part a bit because making music makes me feel better. adding emotions like stressed or determined would be better or letting the user input/create emotions on their own would also be good. overall, a wonderful app that i love very much. thanks to the cove team for making it completely free and giving me a place for some structured creativity and an ability to make things for myself. i highly recommend this to anyone who needs a place to express their emotions to no one in particular. thank y'all.

I’m a huge fan of instrumental music - from classical to jazz to contemporary ambient sounds... whatever the genre. I felt like many of the pieces I listen to are a deep expression of human emotion and experience, in which words are almost useless in describing. And to have found an app that allows me personally to express in the same way is pretty incredible.

I especially love the user interface of this app. It’s simple, super clean, aesthetically pleasing, and effective. I started with one emotion and after producing a song, my emotions changed and I had the ability to log that change, too. And I usually don’t like journaling but creating that song stirred something up in me, that it inspired me to write about this movement of emotions, too. I like that it keeps my creative juices flowing. I think that helps us humans to feel better you know? Cause I think we are meant to create and we create best when it’s an expression of how we feel.

So, super kudos. 10/10 recommend.

Makes sparks in my brain

This helps me to calm down my mind; using sound. it is at once soothing and helps me to focus on a creative task that is not so hard I can’t figure it out but not too difficult I can’t perform it. The therapeutic affects are immediately evident for me. I can feel how my blood pressure lowers and I can identify heavier emotional weight that is dealt with creatively. There is also a kind of mental activity response with the percussive part of the sound I didn’t expect. Of course there is this calming sort of Volumous sound at the beginning as well so that is pretty evocative as well. I sent this to three people and posted it on twitter and Facebook bc I liked it that much.
