Relocating to the U.S. is hard enough. We know you have a million things to worry about-finding housing, schools for your kids, even trying to figure out which grocery store stocks your favorite flavor of Ben and Jerry's ice cream (Chunky Monkey you say?). Landing a local credit card might be the last thing on your busy mind. Unfortunately, this can be a critical oversight.
Credit cards are needed for so many important things in America--from buying a mobile phone plan, to furnishing your house and getting a loan or mortgage, credit is the name of the 'American Dream' game. The problem? Folks new to the United States are unable to land a credit card without any credit history but are unable to build credit history without a credit card. One of the most frustrating chicken and egg scenarios we've ever come across.
The other options currently being offered instead of credit cards are simply sad substitutes. Debit cards? No thanks, doesn't help build credit at all. Secured credit cards with ridiculously low monthly credit limits? We don't think so. That $300 credit limit won't get us very far.
Cue CreditStacks. We decided to change the way credit was doled out by providing relocating professionals with one of the most powerful financial tools so they can easily start building credit. From day one.
We offer premium credit cards to relocating professional with zero credit history, and no SSN required to apply. With a $5,000 monthly credit limit, we give relocating expats the chance to start building excellent credit as soon as they land, making the transition that much softer.

Very nice app with good functionality
5k starting credit card limit, but app is unreliable and the only way to make payments...
Firstly, they ONLY report to Equifax right now so if you want to use this card to build a TransUnion and/or Experian score you’re wasting your time. Secondly, the only way you can access your account online is by downloading the app, which would be great if the app actually worked, which half the time it doesn’t (for example I tried to make a payment this morning but it failed).
Thankfully their email support is pretty quick. They just need to iron out all their other issues. The trouble they face is they’re targeting a smartphone-only generation but the smartphone generation demands a fool-proof, streamlined UX. Right now there is more style over substance and that is not what personal finance is about, especially in this generation.
I did get a $5k starting limit with relatively little paperwork or effort required, and the APR isn’t bad for somebody on a work visa. But all this means very little if they make it challenging to pay off a balance or report their credit to a bureau other than equifax.
Ultimately, CreditStacks’ strategy is good but their execution is poor. I hope they improve soon...
When your app is the only way to manage your account you better get it right
The only way to manage your CreditStacks account is through the app. So if you want to make a payment towards your card or check your balance, if the app doesn’t work you’re SOL.
That’s exactly the situation I’m in right now. The app says that I cannot use it until I update it and logs me out and takes me to the App Store. That would be great except that the updated version of the app has not yet been published to the store. So yeah, I guess I’ll have to use ESP to try and guess my available balance.
Great design and user experience guys! /s
