Crosstalk - AI Immersion 9+

I stumbled into this app on Reddit, someone had suggested it and I said what a cool idea. At the time there were only four languages supported on the app. I messaged and said “what a bummer, I wish the app offered Greek”. Well, sure enough, I think the owner (or one of the developers) responded and said I’ll let you know when we get there. To me, in typical app fashion, I just dismissed this, but was thankful I was at least acknowledged. Further, I’ll let you know when we get there usually means, see you in a few years. Sure enough, three days later, I get an email saying someone responded to your Reddit post, (since I post often I wasn’t thinking of what it could be) low and behold Greek is now inside the app. Just for this alone, I recommend using the app!

Amazing app. No complicated point system. No leaderboards to worry about. No scripted conversations. You're having a quality conversation with an AI as if you were speaking to a native speaker. What I like to do is I have a list of "ice-breaker" sentences from Google Translate in my target language of topics that I like. Then I start talking to Crosstalk exactly as if I was speaking to a native Russian speaker. Crosstalk is very good at correcting the ways I put my sentences together and explaining new words.
For someone with zero experience in your language, you have the option of replying in your native language.

Some LLMs, especially GPT, like to use as many big vocabulary words as they can. However, I am learning a language (Hindi in my case) so that I can have actual conversations with people and sound like a local. Not to sound like a wannabe scholar who is trying too hard using fancy words out of colloquial context.

This is the only AI chat language learning app that I’ve used thus far which appears to, either via good prompting and/or a good model, talk to you somewhat like an actual (highly polite) person.
