CSV files — comma separated values — are a widely used file type for the transfer of simple information. It's a format used by Excel and a host of other applications in finance and other industries.

CSVEdit will open these files supporting a user-selectable set of field delimiters and file encodings, allow you to search and filter (ie, only show rows containing a string), and edit the files. Fields can be altered, rows added, reordered and/or removed, columns added or deleted. CSVEdit supports undo so you can try things out.

By changing the file's characteristics, you can open SQL data extracts (hint: change the field separator to "|") or many other row-based formats.

The files can then be saved, optionally using new delimiters or in a different file encoding to make translating between formats easy.

It all adds up to a simple but powerful tool for browsing and editing CSV files.

Note: CSVEdit does not save comment lines present in the input when writing out files.

It's okay!

This is a nice and lightweight app to quickly few, edit, and save CSV files. For more extensive editing (adding/deleting rows or columns) it is a little bit fiddly though. But for $2 it's more than a fair deal that I would recommend.

Perfect…so far. UPDATED

Although there are some missing bits of functionality, this editor is exactly what I was looking for. It’s lightweight, responsive, aesthetically pleasing, simple, and effective. What has been done, has been done very well. Does an excellent job of importing CSV, identfiying headers, drawing tables, and supporting row and colum operations.

UPDATE: there seems to be a problem displaying over a certain number of columns. It creates a final column with name “..” which, when clicked, expands out to expose remaining columns, but the expanded column set cannot be scrolled through. Like the scroll bar boundaries aren’t changed to reflect the unhidden columns.

This is the tool you need when Excel crashes on CSVs

It may be a poor editor, but when excel crashes with the meaningless error msg of “out of memory” whilst editing or opening large CSV files this 2.00 app is a great solution.
