Custom Symbols 4+

Custom Symbols makes the process of taking SVGs into SF Symbols as easy as you could wish for. While it does not allow you to tweak each of the glyph variations individually it does allow you to get what you probably want in practice for many use cases.

This is especially true for tab bar glyphs where you probably don’t care too much about the dozen variations and can optimize it for the tab bar appearance. This is even easier than using things like Sketch templates to create/export icon variations.

Highly recommended.

After struggling with custom SF Symbols, I came across this app. I tried it out and almost purchased it, but then I found the SwiftDraw package on GitHub. It includes a command line tool that converts an SVG into a custom symbol. I tried this app and SwiftDraw on the same input file. SwiftDraw gave a noticeably better output. I think it is because SwiftDraw scales the input file to the proper margins and then uses the variable SF Symbol template, rather than the static template. SwiftDraw also allows you to input three different files for the three weights required of a variable template. I would pay for a GUI interface, but not this much, and especially when it does not work as well as the command line option.

I usually don't write reviews, but this uitility - and I mean this in the best way possible - streamlines turning any vector image into an SF Symbol so good I plan to purchase the lifetime IAP.

This app is NOT really geared for a graphics person who wishes to create SFSymbols (even if you know what such a thing is). Rather, if a graphics person can send to YOU - a developer who "consumes" a vector image - said image, you can turn it quickly into an SF Symbol and utilize everything that means.
