Ratings and Reviews
Previous Nest User
My new Daikin Fit system is great. I had to give up my Nest thermostat for the new system and the app leaves something to be desired. The two things I miss the most from Nest are (1) the ease of use and dependability of the auto-away and geofencing feature, and (2) the energy usage reports.
The geofencing auto-away feature with Nest was compatible with multiple user IDs, making it easy to set it up with multiple devices. The Nest thermostat also detected movement, so it didn’t go into auto-away mode if we left kids at home with a babysitter.
In comparison, the Daikin app has to use the same user ID across multiple devices. This has made troubleshooting the geofencing auto-away feature impossibly difficult. Trying to add two devices to the auto-away geofence tracking has resulted in both phones being seen as a single phone. Sometimes a second phone appears which is always “away” despite both phones being “home” and forces the system into auto-away settings anyway. I’ve completely disabled the auto-away geofence feature since it won’t work with both phones. I miss my Nest.
App is only ok, when it can connect to Daikin server
It’s nice to be able to remotely adjust your home’s heating and cooling when you’re away, or just in a different room. We love the Daikin heat pump we recently purchased, but the smart thermostat installed with it loses its connection to Daikin One every time we have a power outage - which is pretty often in the winter. Even when the smart thermostat recognizes it is connected to our wifi we’ve been unable to get it re-connected to Daikin One. After 2 months waiting for service, the sales and installation agent fixed it finally (he had a setup app for agent use only) - but then it disconnected again during the next power outage and we’re back to square one.
Despite being initially excited about having a smart thermostat, I’ve come to hate this app because its UI isn’t intuitive or very intelligent - and no one should need to make a service call just to get the mobile app and the smart thermostat to talk to each other again after the power comes back online. Yes, we have tried deleting and reinstalling the app. We have tried everything we can think of - and we’re a pretty tech savvy household. Daikin, please improve your IoT technology! In the meanwhile, for us... another service call. :-(

Taking a cue from Microsoft
Looks like they are taking a page from Microsoft playbook where every improvement adds more clicks to get to what you actually need. This app is optimized for people have more than one thermostat. I’m not sure how many other uses are that but every house I’ve ever had is only had one thermostat. So rather than the nice clean display that was in the last version, there’s now just a partial display then I have to tap into that to get to the clean display and even if that there’s a big banner at the top. Why don’t you at least optimize this back to the way it was just looking at how many thermostats someone has. If they have one just show that as the main page. More
is not always better. take a page from Apple and not Microsoft on user design.
