  • The Most Practical Way to Budget AFAIK

    Akoeht

It was unusually difficult to find an budgeting method that didn’t require an online account or - at the other end of the spectrum - required me to basically be my own accountant in the worst way. This is the best mix of detail, privacy, and accessibility that I’ve ever seen in a budget tracking or data utility app in general. I spend very little time thinking about money now, while I’ve saved and invested more than ever since using this app. It gives me the information I need about my spending and gets out of my way otherwise. There is actually a lot of room to budget in different and dare I say creative ways here. In my case, I’m meticulous but lazy. I track every novel purchase, rounded up to the nearest dollar, but I’ve added regular costs that fluctuate as fixed monthly costs based on their average e.g. a tank of gas every two weeks. That makes my cost of living more or less built in to the budget, so my balance is 100% for food and leisure barring emergencies and other surprises. Psychologically this does wonders; knowing that your needs are financially accounted for makes you feel almost like a kid saving up 10s and 20s for the thing you want. Even if it’s what you would consider pocket change after the bills are paid, you have a clear idea of what you can spend freely. Granted, this is an aspect of household budgeting when done right anyway, here it is achieved with very little effort.

  • The Best Budgeting App & System. Period.

    tsmango

Daily Budget is the absolute best budgeting app and system I've ever tried. For years I've tried to use Mint's budget feature, and countless other apps, but could never get any to work for me. I don't know exactly how much I'm willing to spend on entertainment or groceries or restaurants each month. Things change. Sometimes we're busy with work and eat out more. Sometimes we cook more. I honestly felt like a failure and that I just couldn't budget like a person should be able to. But then I found Daily Budget and it just clicked. Their approach of entering your fixed expenses, regular income, and the amount you'd like to save each month, before showing you how much is safe to spend each day, on every day things, is perfect. It just makes so much sense. Didn't spend everything in your budget yesterday? It gets rolled into the next day! Have a big, non-recurring expense coming up? They thought of that too with their Big Expenses feature that lets you "save up" out of your daily budget or spread the cost of something that'll last a while over some period of time. And lastly, the fact that Daily Budget doesn't automatically pull in your transactions, I feel, is a plus. It's easy to not be in touch with your financial health when things happen automatically. You enter each transaction yourself and you know right away how you're doing. Get this app and stop feeling like you're unable to budget successfully.

  • Cure for my deathly frivolous ways with money

    dfabling

Yeah I really don't write reviews at all, but this one is worth some accolades. My whole life I have been excessively foul with my money. I recently just became a new dad, and was thinking that would instill some frugalness in me....not the case. Still was going four days to a whole week freaking broke before I got paid and my wife and I are left scrounging around to make it work, we've managed to figure it out, but in the most haggard way possible. And of course every time we would say we're going to quit being so frivolous but like clock work we'd be right back in the same place. We recently had the come to Jesus talk, and both agreed that we need to commit to drastic changes with our spending and in we I mean "I" lol. Also to add we do reasonably well as far as our income goes, but really looking back at our bank statements I was spending 500 dollars a month at freaking convenient stores and the excessiveness went on from there. So this app has completely saved me from my foul ways, now that I'm able to actually see what I have available to spend on a daily basis it has made me infinitely more conscious and aware of the money I do spend. And with that, I have cut out the money I did spent on bull #%*+ more than half. I went through several different budget apps, and none of them compare to how effortless and effective this app is. Hope it works for y'all as it did me.

  • Freedom!

    TimeOrMoney

This app turns budgeting on its head. Gone are the days of allocating every dollar to "something", and trying to stick to the budget. I'm not speaking for everyone here, but I have no idea how much money I want to spend on everything at the beginning of the month. Additionally, life is ever changing. How can you plan for the unknown? Finally there is an app that changes your spending habits. An app that makes you aware of what you spend. By becoming aware, you will realize how much money you've wasted. Now the saving can really begin. Since purchasing this app I've become completely debt free, but more than that, I realized what a distraction money really is. I've simplified my life to the point where I can live off less than $1000/month. I work part time and am able to put money away every month. No, I don't live in a shack and eat ramen every night. I just stopped spending money on what I don't NEED. I traded the money I didn't need for time. I have time to see friends again, surf my favorite breaks, take my dog camping, and cultivate passions. Time is your most precious commodity. Everyone has a finite amount of time and I truly believe it's best spent doing what you love, not accumulating wealth to pay for stuff you really don't need. This app has completely changed my life. A truly amazing outcome for only $4.99 :)

  • Cure for money-stress & a LIFESAVER

    Boopabelle

Rarely, if ever, do I write reviews for apps, but after around two months of using Daily Budget, I just had to. This app is flat out amazing. Traditional budgets have never worked for me and usually left me more stressed than before I tried using them; failing with them made me feel like a failure as far as money was concerned. I was still constantly over-drafting and the idea of saving anything at all was downright laughable. But with just two months of using Daily Budget, there's more money in my account than there's been in two years, and I'm not constantly stressed about money for the VERY FIRST time since I graduated college four years ago. It's beautifully designed in its simplicity and ease of use, and just beautiful in terms of its aesthetic design. I also like that it requires no access to my bank account; privacy aside, it makes me much more conscious of my spending when I have to make sure to input every transaction I make into the app. Daily Budget has lifted an immeasurable burden off my shoulders and has given me a sense of empowerment over my finances I honestly wasn't ever sure I'd have. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the developers.UPDATE: just wanted to say that one year on, I'm still using this app, and just as impressed with and thankful for it. 💕

  • My Unorthodox Use Case

    Weathla

So I’m actually in college with a semester-based stipend for food bought on campus. The way the university deals with this “meal plan” is quite clunky, so I decided to get my own budgeting app and work out the budget myself. I mainly care about portioning out a bit of the meal plan each day for big events and such, but the app is also quite functional in that I can transfer all of the collected finance data into a CSV spreadsheet! Returning to the meal plan, the way the app tries to set up my budget as more income-based than allowance-based is probably useful for most use cases of this app. However, my meal plan is essentially just a gift card that I swipe on campus, with a fixed amount at the start of each semester. In order to get around the “income” problem for this app, I essentially just have the pay period (a setting in the income options) to the duration of the semester. From there, the app calculates how much you get every day, and just gives you that fixed income for as long as you wish. I’ve found that basically for August and January, when I’m not spending meal plan for half of those months, I just subtract all of the accrued savings and continue on with the semester! Overall, love the app. Easy to use. Also has a good Internet forum on reddit.

Thank you very much for your detailed review! You can also enter your meal plan amount as an extra income and distribute it over the necessary period. In this case it'd be easier to edit it. But in general regular income does the same things with start and end date.
