Ratings and Reviews
Great app
There used to be an app called "Tree" on the App Store. I used to use this app extensively. Unfortunately the development has stopped a few years ago and the app no longer available on the App Store.
Dashword is nearly identical to Tree and I'm so glad I ran into it!
I give it 4 stars because there are some minor annoyances that could be improved upon. For example, it is not possible to duplicate a node with or without children. This would be a timesaver, but when I copy/paste a node, only its name will be pasted and if it has children they will not.
When I drag a node and hold down the Option key, a "Plus" icon will indicate that the node is being duplicated. That's the idea of the Plus icon. DUPLICATION. But the node is not getting duplicated, it's just being moved from one location to another.
I would also find it more helpful if a tooltip would show up when I hover over buttons in the toolbar and that tooltip would show the keyboard shortcuts as oppsoed to me having to go to the bottom right of the page and click the keyboard icon to see a list of shortucts.
Different mind map apps use keyboard shortcuts differently so it would be nice if some of the shortcuts could be customized.
Overall I'm glad there's an app that works like the old Tree app used to, but really would like to have the ability to duplicate a node (including its children), whether using copy/paste or drag and drop.
It's Perfect!
I just want to say thanks to the devs for making this app cause i've been looking for something like this for ages - a nice looking horizontal outliner! It's perfect! The only requests I have are:
1 - Please add OPML import/export support when possible
2 - If theres a way to tag specific entries and then be able to select to view specific trees that contain that tag by allowing user to focus, it would be awesome! For example - if I make entries inside different trees and tag them as “Shopping” - then I can go to the view menu and select “Shopping” and every other tree that doesn’t contain entries tagged “Shopping” become invisible and I can focus on the trees I want.
3 - At some point, Devs will probably look to monetize the app, i'm all for it! It's a trend these days to make software subscription based with monthly payments but PLEASE provide an alternative for people who are looking to pay one time payments, even if it's a $100 and up! I’ll gladly shell it out for software this good - take a look at Omnigroup and how they provide similar alternatives of one-time payments for willing customers, so please do something similar when the time comes to monetize the app.
Besides that, this app is just exactly what I’ve been looking for and I know if more people know about it, it’s going to become extremely popular all around as a very powerful productivity tool. Thank you again for the Devs! Keep up the good work!
Improves on the now defunct Tree app
Once upon a time there was an app called Tree that had a devoted following. Sadly, the Japanese developer let it die, but Dashword has resurrected the concept in Tree and improved upon it. Dashword has some quirks, such as Edit->Delete won't delete the entry but the manubar trashcan will. The file directory is an interesting approach but not nearly as good as the current multipane approach other developers have taken. Otherwise the app works and hopefully the developers can expand its capabilities. One suggestion would be to have connectors (links) between entries the way many mind maps do.
