Better Than Most!
Well, I purchased this game and Dungeon Warfare 2 today and I like this game much better. DW2 is way too complicated. This game is easier to understand, but there are some design choices that keep it from being a 5 star TD game.
There really are only 6 towers that, when unlocked, branch off into many other types of towers. Like your main defense tower can be replaced with a tower that boosts adjoining towers but now does no damage and costs more to build. There are many variations of other towers, say, more damage plus another perk. Some towers were kind of weak IMO. You must unlock the other tower types by beating the maps. There is no other way.
Then you must purchase each tower type with in-game cash you get from beating the campaign maps or by playing Survival Mode. Basically it's a hard endless mode. Games end very quickly due to the hard-as-nails difficulty. It's much harder than campaign mode, which is sad. I like long endless games.
Worst design choice for me was that you must choose wisely which 6 towers to take into battle, which weakens the game greatly IMO. There are better ways to implement this and be able to choose all the unlocked tower types during battle.
Still, it's a fun TD game with cool retro vector graphics! Solid 3.5 star game!
Fieldrunners With Vector Graphics
Really enjoying this so far. At this point (8 levels in) it’s an easy 4 stars due to beautiful visuals, good balancing, and classic open field tower defense gameplay. I may revise my rating up or down a star as I progress but I can already tell that it’s easily worth the price of admission. I just wish it supported the full screen of my iPhone X.
