Data Transformer is an offline desktop app for converting between popular data formats.

Do you need to send a JSON or YML file to your colleagues when your data is in a spreadsheet? Do you need to load XML or JSON files into a spreadsheet or SQL database for analytics or reporting? Data Transformer has got you covered.

It is the perfect tool to transform data from one format to another. While the user interface is simple and intuitive, it offers a myriad of options for all possible corner cases.

Unlike most other conversion programs and websites, which send your data on the public Internet, Data Transformer keeps your data offline on your computer. On Mac, this is ensured by Apple’s sandbox - you can check the app permissions before installation and validate that the app doesn’t access the network. Hence, you can rest assured that your data stays on your computer.

Data Transformer supports the following data formats:

- Comma-Separated Values (CSV) and all of its variations (e.g. TSV);
- Extensible Markup Language (XML);
- YML;
- JavaScript Object Notation (JSON);
- SQL (can be created but not imported);
- More formats are to come!

With Data Transformer you can either open a file with your data or directly paste/enter the input data content in the app.

Does what it says it does

I converted a large (albeit simple) JSON document to CSV, and it worked perfectly. I was able to get the job done with ~15 seconds of effort!

The reason for 4 vs. 5 stars is that from reading through the options in the converter, it was not clear to me that this tool would handle nested JSON objects very well. For example, I would expect nested JSON objects stored in a separate CSV file with reference -- similar to how this data would be represented in a relational DB. From reading the option descriptions, it looks like this tool would still create a single CSV file just with waaaay more columsn and rows. I did not test this though, so maybe I am wrong.

JSON to CSV isn't good

An online JSON to CSV convert was working for me, but I thought it would be better to convert the sensitive JSON data on my computer. The JSON I try to convert comes from Postman, but the resulting CSV is never more than two lines. Bummed.
