Description
DataOrganizer is a personal database for macOS. While professional database software may be expensive and complex, DataOrganizer aims not only to be affordable and easy to use, but perhaps even fun.
DataOrganizer is free to download and can be tried out for 14 days with no restrictions. After that, DataOrganizer requires a subscription. Both annual and monthly plans are available.
There are a bunch of things you can do with DataOrganizer. You can…
1. Import existing data from Bento 4 databases, CSV files, and BayCard stacks.
DataOrganizer imports Bento 4 databases. Because the last version of Bento is a 32-bit app, it will not open in macOS 10.15 Catalina. With that in mind, DataOrganizer imports Bento's raw database file, ensuring that importing will continue to work even after system support for Bento has been removed. (Note: Encrypted and calculation fields are not presently supported.)
DataOrganizer also imports data from BayCard stacks (DataOrganizer’s predecessor), as well as data from Comma Separated Values (CSV) and Tab Separated Values (TSV) files.
2. Jump right in with eight ready-made templates.
DataOrganizer includes eight ready-made templates to get you started: Clients, Inventory, Issues, Journal, Membership List, Party Planner, Recipes, and Serial Numbers. Simply select a template and DataOrganizer will generate an appropriate library on the fly.
3. Quickly create your own libraries.
Should DataOrganizer not include a template that fits your needs, DataOrganizer makes it easy to create your own library in minutes.
4. Further organize your libraries using stacks and smart stacks.
If you want a “sub-group” of the cards in a library, you can create a stack or smart stack. A stack is similar to a playlist in iTunes, while a smart stack is criteria-based and is similar to a smart playlist.
5. Link to Contacts, Calendar, Mail, and Files.
DataOrganizer includes four field types that link to data that is already on your Mac.
6. Store collections of photos.
DataOrganizer also includes a field type known as a Media List Field that stores collections of one or more photos.
7. Link to other libraries using relationships.
Using a relationship field, DataOrganizer allows for one library to link to another library.
8. Track your locations with Geolocation Fields
As of version 3.0, DataOrganizer includes a Geolocation Field that can be used to track locations (latitude and longitude). Geolocation Fields can optionally display the recorded location in an embedded map. (Please note that an active wireless connection is required to obtain the current location.)
9. Switch over to the Table and Gallery views
In addition to the standard list view for libraries and stacks, DataOrganizer includes two additional view modes: Table and Gallery.

Ratings and Reviews
Subscription??
I like the way you can easily add and move around block and create your own page out of a spreadsheet. Said that, I'm tired of developers that disguise their apps as "services." From a customer perspective there is no reason to pay for a monthly "service" while what we're getting is just a fully functional app. Subscriptions make sense for services that provide weekly or monthly information that constantly changes. But a fully functional app? You can charge for new versions and release free updates for bugs (which shouldn't be there in the first place). But other than that, what exactly I would be subscribing to??
I'm a Believer Now
My first impression using this app wasn't very good. I corresponded with the developer who was very responsive, but I decided to try another app instead. That other app was OK, but I felt drawn back to DataOrganizer again. I gave it another try and I'm glad I did. It's more versatile and powerful than the other app. DataOrganizer has been updated a few times since my first try, and I think the changes have helped. I did encounter a few "harmless" crashes this time while creating a new database, but it took just a brief second to relaunch. Everything was fine with no loss of data or progress. I've had no problems using any database once it's been created. The advantages of DataOrganizer far outweigh the minor inconvenience I've described. Based on the progress since the earlier version I tried using, I expect this remaining issue will get fixed. I intend to stay with DataOrganizer.
Almost Perfect for the Small Business
So this app is almost a perfect balance between features and cost for a small business. I think one of the only things missing from this is the ability to do simple math with data fields.
Seriously, I think the only thing that's going to stop me from buying is that I have things like a quantity field in a card along with an order cost. But there doesn't seem to be a field that can auto generate unit price by dividing order cost by quantity.
I know the basic math exists, since I can see the totals of specific categories when I list cards. But I can't do any math in the card, or between two cards. Please please please add this feature.
Maybe allow us to make a box and it has like three drop downs next to each other, the first one is a relationships field and I choose which field from another card or the current card that I want. Then the second drop down can be a controlled section of math options, -x/ , then the second field is the same as the first. This ability would have so much emergence that it would bring this software to the next level.
