Don't buy this version - get it direct from BMD

I am a filmmaker who depends on my NLE to meet due dates. The app-store version of Resolve Studio was consistently unreliable for me. It regularly hung and crashed, or showed odd behavior that Blackmagic Design couldn't doagnose. After spending multiple calls over several weeks on the phone with BMD tech support, a senior rep there told me that the app store version fo resolve was "more an Apple product than a Blackmagic product" and that he couldn't help me solve the issue because of that. He recommended that I purchase the non-app store version of Resolve instead. I was extremely frustrated by this since I had already invested in the app store version and was not offered any type of refund or discoutn by BMD.

When the Speed Editor came out, I purchased the package deal that included it and Resolve. The tech support rep was right. It is a different product in terms of stability. I love the intuitive itnerface and great color workflow. Now I also have a stable tool that lets me spend my time creating instead of calling tech support.

Bottom line: Resolve is a wonderful tool, just don't get it from the app store. That version doesn't work and Blackmagic Design doesn't really support it. The license key version gets updates sooner, has some better features and is stable.

Renewing my 1-star rating after 2 year of use on multiple workstations

The app store verison is not the full verison. It's also preennially broken compared to the multiple other workstations with the "same" 17.1 version that I have used on mac and pc. Presently, my M1 mac has lost the abiity to use nested timelines due to some obscure drive write permissions issue. This prevents me from carrying out my workflow with remote grades and audio submixes, which worked fine before the upgrade. These features work fine on the same mac when I use the dongle version. I have several other examples of similar defeciveness. We should get a class action lawsuit together. Boooooooo!

I am stuck with thi version

I am stuck kwith this version, I bought it when it came out, the only downside is that you have to wait some days to get the newer versions, hope that will be faster, I dont get why is so slow, but I do have the complete fusion with the dongle and I don like at all to have to carry the dongle, my M1 Max mac has 4 ports, just thinking of having to use the dongle on my mac every time I open Davinci Resolve Studio, that is teh factor I dont want to update to the other version, I do like this version pretty much, for the last years I have been updating with this version and is perfectly fine, just have to wait some days to get those updates.

- I just wish they upadate the 360 VR stuff on the program, other than that I love it
