There's a lot of randomness at work, but if you keep retrying, something interesting is bound to appear. It's fun to see what happens with the different filters. Expect to see a lot of abstract shapes, as most of the results are unrecognizable, or at best, have peices of the original photo. This is good if you're after a kind of abstract art effect. You have some control over the filters, but each "try" creates a new result, so there are internal, hidden parameters that are randomized. I would like to be able to "constrain" some of the (currently hidden) parameters, perhaps, to have a bit more control over what happens.Probably my main negative is that even when feeding it a 14mp input file, the resulting file was less than 3mp. I'd like to have a higher-quality option, realizing that increasing the size might only be supported on newer devices.

After you've had your fill of apps that tweak the colors, add a grunge filter, add the bokeh effect, and do all the same things that every other photo app does, come try a truly unique app. Well worth the price, whatever the price is. This app doesn't tweak colors, add an HDR filter, doesn't do grunge, and doesn't add a cute border. Instead, this is the Chuck Norris of filters - it destroys, annihilates and DECIMATES your picture til you barely recognize it. Why is this a good thing? Well, the results can be completely originally, amazing, wow, and downright spectacular. I used to use Photoshop, Snapseed, Tiffen DFX, Phototropodelic and all those apps that tweak colors and add similar filters, but after trying Decim8 on a whim, I now use it as one of my primary photo apps. • I want to love Decim8

I love this app's effects, and post-modern, novel approach to photo post-processing. The perfect anecdote to creamy, faux-pinhole sepia junk on Instagram and Hipstamatic. Edgy, conceptual, and fun.The problem, though, even on the 4S, is that applying the effects can take up to 30 seconds. While it's processing, the camera stays active, which is hard on the battery. I understand that the impenetrability is part of the package here, but some indication of what the filters do (a small thumbnail of an example) would be welcome. The "surprise" of seeing the effect applied would still be there, as the results are dramatically different each time. But if a filter adds scanlines, I'd like to know that. If it inverts colors, I'd like to know that.I'd like it more if the results were that you could generally direct the app, which would then take over and process the photo. Right now, using this feels like groping in the dark. It's just not as satisfying as it could be.

A little buggy still, but I'm more than glad I purchased it. The effects are very useful for what i wanted and there really is no other app that does this well. As a professional photographer and artist i give much respect to the crew simply for developing an original and creative app. Here are a few of my suggestionsAfter an image is "saved!" please leave it in the editor. I have wanted to do multiple variations of the same image. It's annoying that it disappearsSome file size options for saving would be niceA little more control over effects would be phenomenal. Perhaps a slider for intensity or somethingHere are some bugs I'm fighting:App crashes when I try to load some files. It isn't always file size, sometimes it seems to be related to the dimensions or if it was edited by other programsSearching the folders to load images seems to lag a lot. Scroll sticks and sometimes I can't select a file and I have to wait a few seconds before it works again. Same thing happens in the effects menu. It sticks and I can't manipulate or select effects. Generally goes away after a few seconds but may happen a few times before I can even pick a file. If some of this gets solved, I will give it an instant 5 star

This app has potential to be a great app. It's just a little confusing, and sometimes the effects ruin a picture rather than enhancing it. Sometime just a black screen will pop up-even if I have it set to random. Also, randomizing does not seem to work on my iPhone 4G-it just keeps redoing the same effect over and over until there is a black screen. Also, I paid for this app, and I have not seen any links for "in app purchase", however 2 of my effects are locked. 14 total effects and 2 out of those are locked totally. So what gives? I think this app is trying too hard and in the process, OVER processing or overdoing the photos. Even if I just have one effect chosen to apply, sometimes the pic is just one giant blur of nothingness! Please fix this app--I want to love it, but for now, three stars for effort and that's kind of pushing it.

I have been addicted to this app since I first downloaded it years ago. While the current version is not as polished as the previous version, this version implements new features that are incredible like real time effects displayed on screen and parameter adjustments for these effects. A few bugs are to be expected. But the developer is committed to making the very best app possible and he is very quick to patch any and all bugs that get reported. This is one of the most unique photo apps you will ever find. It has become a signature part of my creative process. I for one love it and hope to see it continue for years and years to come. Personal suggestions to the developer:1. Full screen mode - allow users to view and capture images without any user interface displayed other than effected images. Pictures could be captured by tapping the screen or via the volume buttons; same as the built in Apple camera app. If focus is needed users could long press the screen; also the same as the builtin camera. 2. Legacy mode: for those users who still want to use the previous version. 3. Realtime effects display on/off toggle.
