Description

This is the official DhammaOrg iOS mobile App for Vipassana Meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin.

Vipassana Meditation
Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. It was taught in India more than 2500 years ago as a universal remedy for universal ills, an Art of Living. Vipassana is the process of self-purification by self-observation. One begins by observing the natural breath to concentrate the mind. Then, with a sharpened awareness, one proceeds to observe the changing nature of body and mind and experiences the universal truths of impermanence, suffering and egolessness. This truth-realization by direct experience results in mental purification.

Courses
The technique of Vipassana Meditation is taught at 10-day residential courses during which participants learn the basics of the method, and practice sufficiently to experience its beneficial results. There are no charges for the courses - not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. All expenses are met by donations from people who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the opportunity to also benefit.

Locations
Courses are given in numerous Meditation Centers and at Non-Center course locations. Each location has its own schedule of courses. In most cases, an application for admission to these courses can be completed online using this App. There are numerous Centers currently in operation and more in development around the world, including Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.

Valuable support for your practice

This app has everything you need: daily reminders, a variety of recordings, including long instructions, discourses, links to virtual sits around the world, links to centers and course registration, downloadable recordings of talks by Goenka-ji, etc. There is even a 10-15 minute Anapana recording to play for your curious family or roommates.

One of the most useful features for me is the logbook, which tracks every sit you do through this app, including duration. It's very encouraging to see consistent progress. Do note that virtual sits open in Zoom and therefore are not logged by the program.

I really appreciate the thoughtful design of this app and how quickly the team updated it for covid-times. It is lean and elegant yet highly customizable. There are no distracting graphics and no social component, either - fantastic. Just sit.

One thing I would love to see is some sort of widget to keep my practice at the forefront of my mind every time I use my phone.

For now, I keep it on my home screen to keep my practice high priority. It is the most important app in my library.

Much metta to the developers and to all my dhamma family! May you grow in your practice. May you be happy, peaceful, and liberated!

About time!

This app makes so much sense in our current technological world. Downloads have been offered for a long time but an app puts all the important things in one place. And (drum roll!) it actually works! Thanks so much for providing this kind of vipassana support. With version 1 so stable and functional, it's a well-received and often used. I'm using it on an iPad 2 without any problems. Great thinking to make a black background while the audio player plays. Keeps the room dark while meditating! : )

Everything a serious practitioner needs.

Great effort.

A suggestion: Could you please consider adding a custom timer in the next update? Sometimes I may have less than an hour on hand and it would be great to set a timer that could ring at the preset time & get me out of my meditation. This way I can continue to log all my sessions in one place. Thank you for your consideration.
