Great game marred by bugs

To address all the complaints about character paywall and “grinds”, there are none.

Let me reiterate, every character that’s available for purchase right now can be unlocked through game play. But is the game a f2p grind fest? Yes and no.

You unlock additional characters and cards through a chest system. The default character the gladiator for example have 50 chests to open to unlock all of his cards and the next character the demon samurai. You can buy keys for 225 in game currency that you earn by playing the game. Sure there is some RNG involved, you can get the demon samurai in 1 chest or 50 chests.

I believe the frustration comes from obtaining the in game currency. New player probably blaze past the first few difficulty levels (there are 10 total) and hit a wall. Each time you complete a new difficulty level you receive a large bonus of in game currency. However to grind out that same level, without the bonus, to unlock all the chest would take a long time. The game incentivizes you to beat increasingly harder difficulty levels rather than grind at a static level.

Having completed all 10 difficulty levels with the gladiator, I received enough in game currency to not only unlock all 50 gladiator chests, but also 30 of demon samurai’s chests.

While not easy to accomplish, due to few bugged card effects, you can complete all 10 difficulty levels without opening a single chest

New Update is Disappointing

This game was excellent until the newest 1.5.4 update. I spent $5.99 for the pre-hero pack that was supposed to give me three new heroes when the update was live. Yet they retracted this idea and converted the heroes into star dust. Literally money wasted for something that I didn’t want or needed. I spent all the star dust on the new chest system and I couldn’t even get enough skin vouchers for a new skin at least. Duplicates will give you back only a certain amount of star dust (usually in the 200 range) yet it costs 225 and another 225 to get 2 keys to open a single powerful dream chest. So going by that logic, you lose star dust for getting duplicate items. Heroes are far more valuable than star dust and for them to convert it to measly star dust was pathetic. Additionally, this game is vitiated with bugs and if you’re confused about a concept or anything in general, they don’t have a guide option or settings option or anything else. The new challenge system is a great concept, however, it’s very difficult to complete unless you grind this game on a consistently frequent basis. I won’t be playing this game anytime soon unless I see changes or get an actual compensation for them removing the pre-ordered heroes.

Better than Slay the Spire

Amazing value for a $1, this is the most addicting roguelike deckbuilding game I’ve played (including Hearthstone´s solo modes), and the huge number of viable builds for each class make every run a nail-biting challenge. The best decks rarely pilot themselves and largely revolve around maximizing certain combos, which adds a huge risk-reward element: you have to try to survive while building up combo pieces in hand so you can have that huge, game-changing turn. The relics and copy cards also mix things up and can turn risky gambles into super consistent win machines. This is better than I ever expected and I’ll be happy to toss the devs another tip when I’m ready for a new class.
