Description
DJ DEX turns your iPad into veritable DJ software console that rivals features found in top professional DJ applications.
Get touchy with the intuitive interface or plug in a supported DJ controller for tactile hands-on control over features like BPM sync, interactive waveform displays, pitch/tempo control, scratching, seamless automatic looping, automix, and effects. DJ DEX also supports mono split output so you can easily monitor each deck in your headphones just like a traditional DJ setup.
DJ DEX is not a game – it was created using the same technology found in DEX 3 Pro for macOS. Whether you use DJ DEX as your go-to solution for DJing events or as backup you’ll have the features you need to create tantalizing mixes that keep ’em dancing. See for yourself and take it for a spin today!
Key Features:
+ 2 DJ DECKS and a Mixer
+ Hands-on manual mixing or hands-free automation
+ Pitch/Tempo Control
+ BPM Snap-To-Beat Mixing
+ Seamless quantized looping
+ Automatic Beat-Grid based BPM detection
+ High-Quality effects (Flanger, Echo, Cutoff filters, etc)
+ Interactive waveforms that allow you to scratch, pitch bend, reverse play, backspin, etc
+ Library browsing and search
+ 6 hot cues can be set per deck, with cue-play
+ Record your mixes
+ Free updates!
DJ Controller Support:
+ supports multichannel audio controllers
+ over 100 controllers supported (from Pioneer, Numark, Denon, Hercules, American Audio, Reloop, Gemini, Akai, Vestax, etc). No configuration needed, but you do need the iPad Camera Kit connector or a Lightning to USB adapter to connect the controller to your iPad. You must use DJ Controllers that consume very little power (so that the iPad can power them) or have their own power adapter.
Optimize for performance:
+ Turn on “Flight Mode” when doing live mixes
+ If you need both speakers and headphones preview and you don't have a multi-channel audio interface or controller you can use a special inexpensive “splitter” that splits the headphones output so that the left channel will go to the speakers (master output) and right channel will go to the headphones (monitor)
What’s New
Version 2.1.0
* compatible with iOS 16 and newer iPads
* added native support for dozens of new DJ controllers
* improvements to iTunes/Music library integration
* stability improvements and bug fixes
Ratings and Reviews
Not there yet!
I have & have used almost all of the respectable DJing apps, and this ranks as average. While it has some very good points, the app is unfortunately brought down by a few bad ones.
The waveform grabbing is a great feature, but as soon as you let go, the song takes off playing even if the song was paused. Now this is great for scratch simulating, but not so much when you are trying to precisely set a cue point. And speaking of cue points...
The cue point creation & management is an absolutely dreadful system. Lastly, the pitch fader range is to wide, & the pitch bend is way to sensitive.
The bpm detection & sync are both top notch, so all the DJs who cannot beat mix manually are in luck.
I will keep checking back with it as it is updated, because I really think it can become one of the better apps. It is just not there yet.
Very good app
Long time user of PC DEX which is a great program, was glad to get this iPad app. I really like this app, easy to use. One problem that I have with it is that it doesn’t store cue points. That is a big issue with me since I use cue points in live services. In order for me to use this app, I have to set up all cue points all over again for each session. I will continue using the app hoping an update will fix this. I gave it 5 stars because I love the other functionality and ease of use. One other problem, when I search for a song, it finds the same song multiple times in the search results, even though the song is only stored in one location in iTunes.
Good Start
First, the pros:
Decent interface, grabbable waveforms, decent automatic beatgrids, FX sound good, looping is simple and works, 3 band EQ and gain control.
And the Cons:
The faders are very small and hard to grab with your finger, when the deck is stopped, swiping the waveform starts the track playing (why?), no controls for correcting a beatgrid if it is miscalculated, the EQs don't have kills, the faders don't double tap to center (pretty much every app does this, it's a nice touch), the cue points don't have an option to snap to beat, the library could use a little work, no parameter controls for FX.
It works well at the most basic level, but I know it can get a LOT better, can't wait to see some updates!
