  • Technical problems abound

I’ve bought 11 courses. I would get excited to see them on Facebook ads. I’ve been too busy to even do the courses. I watched the first one more than actually took it. Figured I could get back to it when time permitted. When I finally found some time this week to sit down and start a course, the whole setup seemed different. I guess they’ve changed the app in the weeks I’ve been otherwise occupied. Now none of my courses play right on my iPad Pro. They start and then they go off track and drag. I’m using the latest app version, so that’s not the problem. I’m gonna want my money back if I can’t figure out how to access what I paid for. I won’t buy any more courses until then, either. What’s gonna happen, if Domestika can’t get it together, is someone will come and do what they’ve done here better. I love the concept, the brightly lit videos and the variety of topics and artists! But not the frustration. I’ve also been bothered by the very poor translations from Spanish to English. So, I’ve tried to avoid the Spanish language courses and opt for the few in English. Get it together, please, Domestika! I want to LOVE you, not feel regret that I ever saw you go by in my Facebook feed.

  • Deleted Account(buyer beware)

    Artistlife

Everyone read the TOS. It specifically says they can delete your account at any time without any explanation. And they will. Over the last several years I have purchased six of there courses through the app. With one of the last sales they had I purchased a course outside the app. In order to have the course in the app I tried to sign in to my account. However it had been a long time since I logged in I could’nt remember my password. As a result I inadvertently set up a second account. I reached out to Domestika. Through their online form. They gave a indication they could merge accounts. But instead of merging they deleted my in app account. Despite repeated attempts to reach with pictures of proof of purchase for my in app purchases. No one EVER got back to me. Buyer beware.EDIT: They finally sent me an email with instructions on how to get back into my account. Thank you.

  • I feel like a kid, again..

I feel like a kid, again. So many courses, that remind you of your childhood. When you find yourself dreaming about the person you might be: from being a famous painter like Van Gogh, to that glue-behind the scenes in the art props department, to writing that novel that changes lives —not just your own. All I missing is skateboard, my posters of Harrison Ford and some guy from one of those teen magazines, and 80’s pop -purple eyeliner. And, when you think it’s all over, then you throw in the newest software that you thought there was no-way you could make a business out of it, and suddenly that dream that seemed like it already past, is now just day or two away, like the morning sun—you never know what you going to learn about yourself with Domestika. I feel like I’m a new person, and I don’t want to get off the rocket that seems to be beyond all that I know in this universe, this world, …All you have to his push play (aka PLUS) and that theme song that transfers you into another you is just a PLUS away / galaxy away. Hit the play button Sir Elton John. You just never know, what soundtrack might pop up on Domestika station—Cue the music Mr. Elton John. I’m ready to rocket out of here. (Rocket Man / —-Grrl…..)

  • App No Longer works

    Daisy-rent soda

I LOVE DOmestika, but their app no longer works for me. I have a 5th generations IPad PRO 12.9, with the latest IOS update, but this app has been glitchy for the past 6 months. SO Gltichy, NONE of my classes show up - only my “lists.” I’m an avid user, buy both the monthly subscription and buy packs. I have purchased over 100 classes! Downloading the classes has always been a pain. No, It’s not even an option - the app doesn’t allow me to download anything. In the past, when I downloaded, it was a hassle: I can’t just click a button to download all the classes in a course, you have to click each individual class. If there is a choice of languages, I have to also click on the language I want, FOR EACH CLASS, rather than just once for the entire course. If I log out of app, all my downloaded classes are deleted off my device, even though my account is active. Supposedly when you purchase the class, you have lifetime access to that class - so then why does it delete itself when you log out? Even if I don’t log out, when my iPad gets a new update, I’m automatically logged out, so then, all my classes are deleted, again. This app has made it so difficult to use the the service.

  • Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company!

    kellz1307

They will advertise fantastic prices on courses, and you will be tempted. The catch is you have to also sign up for their yearly membership to get those great prices. You’ll think it’s worth it because the first year is a reasonable price ($40 for me in 2023). The second year will be double what you paid the first year ($84 for me last year). But they send you absolutely no billing emails, so you will probably forget you have the membership, and you might not even notice the $84 charge when it posts to your account. Then the second year, they will charge you $329 (4x last year’s price!!!). WITH NO NOTIFICATION OF THE RATE HIKE!!!!! They give no refunds for the annual subscription, so you’re stuck with a HUGE bill for a service whose classes are meh, and that you probably don’t use anyway. They’re not affiliated with the BBB because they don’t respond to BBB complaints, and as of this morning, they have over 300 outstanding complaints on the BBB website. Do yourself a favor and pick a different learning app with better courses and better pricing policies. Honestly, Apple should remove them from the App Store for being scammy and predatory.

  • Be careful of sneaky subscription renewals

    Alicedubwah

I signed up for a year of Domestika through their website. Normally, I set reminders to unsubscribe from services that I am not sure I will want to renew. Apparently I forgot to do so with Domestika. I only found out that my annual subscription had auto-renewed when I looked over my credit card statement. I didn't even remember what Domestika WAS at first. I immediately got in touch to say that I had not been using the service and had no plans to start and hoped I could get a refund. Domestika refused. Auto-renewal is in their terms of service. Legally, they are in the clear. But wow is this an example of terrible user experience design and customer service. Companies should build their business by selling people products they want to buy, not tricking them into paying for an annual subscription for a product they aren't using. If you want to try this product, ONLY sign up through the Apple App Store. Apple will notify you about subscription renewals in advance and make it easy to check and cancel. If you sign up with Domestika's website, they will do their best to make sure you don't know the renewal is coming so you can't opt out.

  • Excellent Resource for Lifelong Learners

    tucson lynn

Domestika offers a wide-range of affordable classes for beginners and experienced students alike. Each class is so thorough and professional. The teachers are professional artists and writers from all over the world. i have enjoyed the dozen or so courses i have taken so far. i have taken classes in a wide range of interests too, from writing to painting to ceramics. As a retired person, with little experience in any of those areas of study, i feel fortunate to have found an affordable way to learn new things. The affordability is very important to me. After purchasing each course one at a time over the past couple of years, i decided to try the Plus membership. I love it! now i can try a different class every day, if i want to, just to learn new things and be inspired by incredibly talented artists from all over the world. Thank you so much, Domestika.

  • WARNING! Read the Fine Print

    WildingArt

I've used Domestika for a year or two now. I always purchase individual courses as needed. Recently I purchased a couple of courses and didn't realize that by doing so I was automatically enrolled in Domestika Plus. Fast forward 30 days later I get a surprise charge of $200. I've tried reaching out multiple times for help only to get a generic answer and a link stating that there are no refunds. (Why would I pay for an expensive subscription when the courses are always on sale???) No one will respond to my replies. I'm currently working with my bank to recover the funds. This has really soured my opinion of the platform. I won't be using it anymore and have no interest in completing the courses I have purchased or using the credits of the subscription if I can't recoup the money. The website also doesn't have a review/feedback feature, except on the individual courses. Their FB page has numerous comments from users who have had the same experience. There's no way to openly share experiences so others are warned (except here which is why I'm writing this review)

  • Good but would appreciate improvements

    YuliaCima

Steady app, doesn’t crush. I’d gladly give it 5 stars but the app heavily lacks improvement in My courses section, for example like filters tool so one can filter out completed courses from currently watching/unfinished ones from freshly purchased etc.. maybe possibly of creating some folds/lists for My Courses… also would be nice to be able to see the course metrics/stats like total duration of a course (1h45min, 3h etc..), to leave a review… Wound highly appreciate a possibility of fast forwarding a lesson/vid by simply tapping on either sides (1 tap equals 10 secs, 3 fast taps = 30 secs, etc), or at least being able to hold and drag the… dot(?) on the video progress bar in full/horizontal view mode without picking up the entire screen with the app together as if I’m trying to minimize the app or close it all together when I’m simply trying to fast forward or to rewatch a segment… thank you!

  • Can’t purchase courses—Domestika won’t help

    Arty Linguist

I’m trying to buy a couple more courses, but suddenly the “Purchase” button stopped working in the app. I press it, and nothing happens. The only “support” is an AI chat that assumes the problem is my bank is not allowing the charge. That is not the problem. The attempt to place the charge never gets that far. The problem is the purchase button is not working in Domestika’s app. The chat offered a link to send a message for human support. I took the time to submit a help request, only to receive the same very unhelpful automated chat response back by email. I’d give 4 stars because I’ve been enjoying my recent course purchases, which I was able to buy a few days ago before that function in the app suddenly stopped working. The courses, in general, are uneven in quality—some are sincerely fantastic and inspiring, while others are outdated and/or conducted by people who don’t seem to know what they’re doing. Overall, I tend to think of them not so much as “courses,” but more like extended presentations with tips and advice. Zero stars for Domestika support. If I were more cynical, I’d think they were hoping you’d go to the website in the browser instead, where the pricing is different, and be mislead into buying a subscription out of frustration because the app isn’t working. If you run into a problem in the app, you are on your own. Domestika will not help you.
