Just from reading the title, you know your objective. But as you explore amazing paper-cutout landscapes, you’ll uncover a weird world dense with secrets and danger. Slick controls make traveling and harvesting food simple, but balancing your hunger and health—and sanity—requires crafting weapons, traps, machines, and more. With tons of mysteries to uncover and challenges to complete, Don’t Starve will keep you enthralled.
When it works, I love this game. However, over the last month I’ve noticed that it’s developed an error where after you save sometimes and then log back into your game it puts you back a couple “days” in your game. This error happens randomly and I’ve been watching for it. And making sure that it’s not because of something like my phone powered off or I clicked out of the game without saving I’ve been being and this issue still keeps happening. It’s incredibly frustrating because you spend a lot of time building things out on this game parts of your progress will just get completely wiped out so it’s getting harder and harder to be excited about this game
My only issue is having to click the food to eat 1 by 1. Its not fair that that if i use the repeat symbol it only makes the last item made. The other version didnt have the problem. Not only that i paid for this game an for it to not really work correctly!! That issue needs to be fixed! Why should i have to keep clicking to eat 1 by 1 when i can hold the repeat symbol down an not have to click the bar on the bottom an then the food then eat! It would be nice for that bug to go away! An fixed!! If its paid for. It shouldn’t matter if on console or pc or phone that repeat button should be able to use for food an not the last item made. The game isnt being as fair at all. I havent made it passed 27 days! Even if i created my own world the things i don’t want still pop up an still in the game. I always put no rain an it still rains no matter what. I put no winter an winter still comes. I put no summer! An yet again summer comes! These bugs needs to be fixed!
I used to play Don't Starve on my computer and ps4. I had a blast...but I could never completely get into it like I wanted to. Now that I have it on my mobile, I can play it anywhere and get into it more. Fortunately, I got this game for $1 on sale and have already put over 10 hours into. That's an amazing value, probably the best I've ever gotten from an iOS game. It's generous of Klei to include the Reign of Giants DLC, too, as it adds a ton to the base game, even though there was a ton of content before. I just can't get enough of this game now. It's challenging, yet not punishing. Also, it has no tutorial or hand-holding, so everything must be learned by simply playing the game or from the Wikis online, which I like. On a bad note, the controls are lacking, like other reviewers say. I wish there was a joystick mechanic rather than a point-and-drag one. However, these shortcomings are NOT game breaking like other reviewers say. They're just a little frustrating once in a while, but then you move on and enjoy how awesome this game is again. Also, I've faced a few crashes, but the game auto saves periodically so it's not that bad. Still, this game is phenomenal and I can tell Klei is releasing regular updates to alleviate these issues. Please get this game. You will be immersed for months. 5/5
I personally am a HUGE fan of Don't Starve. Everything about it is fantastic and it currently reigns as my favorite game. So, when I first saw this mobile game, I got really excited and immediately bought it. However, I was sorely disappointed. First of all, the controls are really awful and make it extremely hard to kite or move around, which is obviously very important. For example, when you move around in somewhere like a forest, you have to move the screen around multiple times in order to find a spot to move to instead of examining the trees. My solution would be a D-pad, which would help A LOT. Another thing that makes this game difficult is the item movement in item slots. I think that moving items from the inventory to another slot or to chests is difficult because it has to be hovered over the other slots for a while and even then it might not move it. Another thing, an easy solution for you lazy developers would be to halve the health of the mobile creatures, similar to how DST buffed the creatures from DS. Overall, there are many things that this game needs to fix and it mainly revolves around the controls. And maybe it would help if you listened to the reviews that don't praise this mobile game so highly. I know that this game will never be as great as its desktop version, but the least you could do is listen to the suggestions and improve the game a little and make it playable.
It’s not as good as Don’t Starve Together (especially Wendy and Abigail) but it’s still pretty good. Except when you almost die to an invisible ewecus. And when pigs walk off the earth and onto the water and never come back. Yes, I said onto the water. Like Jesus. There also seems to be a rare glitch where making food turns straight into rot. Oh, and placing walls/fences is absolutely terrible. Also, my game crashed when I made frogs attack a lure plant. Probably a bad idea on my part but it was funny. There’s also a weird glitch when you die and respawn at the statue, your character just starts taking off in one direction. I also had a fire hound spawn in my first winter. Kinda strange. Also, when your weapon breaks, it doesn’t replace the weapon even if you have the same kind in your inventory but it’ll do so good shovels/pickaxes/etc. Also, Abigail gets stuck offscreen all the time and there’s no way to pull her aggro off of anything. I let her die if she’s accidentally summoned and just throw the flowers at the spawn statue; that’s how useless she is to me here. Also, my world had no “totally normal trees” and I had to spawn a tree guard for living logs. It utterly destroyed me. But great game :D love DST so this is good way to play when I’m not home.
Honestly, this game is amazing. I play a lot of Don't Starve, and this is basically the same as the others. I love this game. The resource gathering is either relatively easy or actually fun (unlike other resource gathering mechanics *cough cough* Crashlands *cough cough*). It has a good fighting mechanic as well. Enemies spawn is specific areas and are usually pretty difficult. The characters have a lot of diversity between them, except for the fact that literally all of their names start with the letter "W". It also doesn't feel like my character is my crutch, which is something I hate about games with multiple playable characters. It has a good balance between resource gathering, fighting, bosses, trying your hardest to survive, making a base, exploring, and of course, not starving. Each mechanic, including the crafting, goes hand and hand. The humor is dark, just how I like it, and most importantly, it's fun! The only thing I hate about this game is the controls, which I hate less and less the more I play. It's great to those who enjoy high quality games. And to answer your question, yes, it is worth the $5.00 price tag.
