Gets the Job Done, But it’s Not Pretty

The UI for the app is very dated, it seems to function well but there are some glaring UI problems (i.e. white text on a white background when filling in information, am using iOS dark mode so maybe it’s a conflict with that)

Also, there was no verification that I was the actual owner of my email address, I could’ve used anyone’s email and filled in false information and because there is no verification, no one would know. This is incredibly concerning giving the purpose of the app.

Poorly designed

Given the nature of this app you think you would have a fully functioning and well thought out app but that’s sadly not the case. There’s no daily reminder to log symptoms which means hundreds of students are going to forget to do it for the 14 days prior to move in, which is concerning and ultimately defeats the entire point of the app, thus making Drexel’s initiative against covid weak. Additionally, there is no email or phone verification when setting up this app which I feel is particularly important when regarding medicinal information. Another, less important fact, is that this app is beyond dated. The style of it and layout of the app is old and not conducive to modern app or phone design anymore. Regardless, all students still need to download this app but hopefully by time they do this app will look and function a whole lot better. Overall, I would really love to see these changes made before moving on campus because after all, with 70,000+ in tuition, a top game/app design program at the university, while in the midst of a pandemic, you would think having a foolproof app would be a no brainer and a necessity.

This UX is a massive failure

Enough has been said about the terrible and outdated UI of this app. What isn’t talked about as much is how incredibly difficult it is to figure out how to schedule a COVID test. For such a crucial aspect of Drexel’s hybrid strategy, the app does nothing to make the process clear. For anyone who is as confused as I was - you need to look through the calendar for a day which has available testing slots. Yes, you seriously need to search for a COVID test date in the calendar, and the app doesnt tell you this either. Why isn’t there a huge button on the home page that says “SCHEDULE A COVID TEST?!” For something so important to student, faculty, and public health, this process should be fool-proof. Seriously Drexel, you have an esteemed design school on your campus. How did you fail so miserably with designing the most important part of your return strategy?
