Description

Design drill for High School Marching Band, College Marching Band, or Drum & Bugle Corps.

Drill is the first Marching Band drill design application built specifically for Mac OS X. Drill offers a sophisticated and full-featured Bézier path tool for designing and editing complex drill formations with extreme precision via a simple user interface. The Bézier tool provides precise control over step intervals between cast members as well as step insets at the beginning and end of formations.

At any time during the design process, you can view a 2D animated playback of your show's drill formations.

Drill can also auto-generate Coordinate Sheets for each cast member in your show for quick printing, thus sparing your kids several hours of tedious coordinate tracking.

Drill also includes full support for modern Mac OS X features like Quick Look, Full-Screen Mode, Autosave, and Version Browsing. Export your drill sets in common image formats like PNG, JPEG, or multi-page PDF.

Getting the job done

I’ve been using Drill for writing my own field show this summer. At a fraction of the cost for other drill writing software, I obviously didn’t expect all the bells and whistles. No 3D animation here and no play back with mp3 file (yet) but I have been impressed with what I can do in terms of formation design and flexibility. There is 2D playback and you can set tempos for each set so you’ll get a good idea of how the drill should look. Some especially helpful features are: ability to check step interval in each formation element, handy guide lines to help you align and center elements on one another, bezier tool for smooth curves, preset form shapes that are adustable in size and shape, ability to customize which cast members are in elements (not just static serialized numbers), and last and most importantly - coordinate sheets for cast members (hallelujah!)

Thank you for making an affordable alternative for writing field drill for any size band!

Completely useless

I am an experienced band director who was looking to use this app to write drill for my band. The price was great so I thought I would try it. Don't let the other reviews in the app store fool you like me. This app doesn't work. It loses track of the dots you have labeled (and it's really difficult to label the cast members). It creates so many warning as you go that are impossible to read because you can't resize the windows. This is a complete waste of money and time. So frustrated.

Excellent Software for the Money

I'm on my fifth year using Drill for my ensembles. It is perfect for what I need, and the price is unmatched.

I bought this during my first year as a teacher, when there was no money in the band account for one of the big softwares and have yet to notice any real limitation.

The tutorials on YouTube are super helpful for when you're getting started, and the UI is intuitive.

Lastly, customer service is very quick to respond and is super helpful.
