Description

Compose cadences on the go! Choose from snares, tenors, bass drums, cymbals, and even drumset if you want. In a league of its own, DrumToolz also lets you manually input exercises for drum set, marching snare, tenors, and bass drums while generating new creative ideas using what you input, all shown on an editable music score. You can also upload your beats to your social profile, play what other users are playing, save rhythms, practice snare drum rudiments, and learn from a full library of dynamic exercises for both snare drum and drumset! It's perfect for all skill levels, from beginner to extremely advanced, drum wizards.

Works great for sharing drum cadences with your drumline. Isolate individual snare, tenors, etc. parts.

Practice the simplest to the most complex of beats and rhythms. If you can think of it, you can input it and practice it! Anything from beginner rock beats, to the most complex of jazz beats and fills. Lastly, top off the notes with ornaments: stickings, accents, flams, diddles, and cheese. Input up to 50 measures.

When practicing drum set beats, choose from a ride cymbal, hihat, hihat foot, kick drum, snare drum, and three toms. Input everything from whole notes to thirtysecond notes and tuplets. Also, for tenors, choose from four tenors and a spock. Bass drums - five bass drums. Marching snare - a realistic marching snare and a ping sound.

Generate new ideas (modifications) using beats that you input into the score. Choose from several modification methods: Add, Shuffle, Substitute, Permutate, Repeat, and Random. Modify individual parts of the beat (ex: kick drum only) or the entire beat if desired.

Custom snare exercises. Choose the time sig, subdivisons, tuplets, stickings, accents, flams, diddles, cheese, drags.

Save the beat in the score for later practice, keeping the modifications if desired. If the modifications are kept, this turns the beat into an endless, dynamic exercise! Each time you generate an exercise, it uses the modifications to give you an entirely new beat.

String together saved rhythms and practice them as one exercise, perfect for practicing beats followed by a drum fill.

Upload your beats to your profile. Find and follow other drummers in the social network. Learn from them as you see and practice what they have uploaded to their profile.

Share your beats through PDF links and files. Also, share your entire score with a link that pre-populates the score into the app.

Learn from a full library of dynamic drum set and snare drum exercises, essential and hybrid rudiments included.

For highlighted rhythms, shuffle around groups of notes, stickings, accents, flams, diddles, and cheese.

Really good for writing

The app is good for bringing ideas in mind to life, but I think the app would be better if you considered these things.

1. Dynamics

I think the drumline features and cadences would be much more interesting if we had dynamics. So I think maybe you could add forte or piano, etc.

2. Cymbals should sizzle

The drums can already buzz roll, so I think the cymbals should have an option to sizzle. The buzz roll and the sizzle would sound good together.

3. All the drums should have rim shots

The marching snare’s ping sound is the rim shot for the marching snare, but the marching tenor and bass drums can’t do a rim shot. I think all the drums should be able to do rim shot, then it sounds weird when only the snare is doing a rim shot.

4. Weird glitch when adding notes.

Sometimes when I add a notes into a measure, sometimes it automatically gives that note an accent, diddle, buzz roll, or a flam. And sometimes when it gives the note a buzz roll I cannot get it off.

5. Dark mode problems

Sometimes when I have the phone on dark mode, the font of the options camouflages in. I have to take my phone out of dark mode to get it work. The app still works, you just can’t exactly get the same quality in dark mode.

I think the app would be better if did these things.

Problems

First off, I think that this is an ok app but its missing many things that are basic. First off, the UI has issues and often I cant read words listed on them. Secondly, snares need options for a buzz. Cymbals should also have an option to sizzle. Bases also need the options for rim shots and not just normal hits. The app also has an issue with crashing. If you zoom out, glitches, and too many notes can crash the app and delete your progress, I really think there should be an auto save feature. Lastly I think the sounds should be updated, which is probably a lot to implement since the sounds are already pretty good but just a suggestion. I hope that this can help fix some of the issues, but the goods out-way the bad. If you write songs that have multiple instruments and like over 20 measures, the app will not save it properly, messes up the location of where the instruments play, mess with the time signatures, and will completely crash if you open it.

Weakness of UI

This app is tottaly at another level from all other drums educational apps but i dont know why developers don’t improve their UI, for ex: i can not see the bar line in tuplet moid or i cant chang the measure by scrooling down the numbers, cause in my iphone, i only can here the voice of increasing or decreasing the numbers and its visual box (ui) always is a white blank page anf if any body dosent know about that, it really is a big problem for tuplet measerement or other stuff, but beside of this weaknees, it’s mind blowing and i use it every they for my warmup practices and beat generating! Also i wish you developer guys add an “open hi hat“ ton into your samples, cause you have only the ride samples and ride decay is way much more than open hihat sound. Thank you so much for such a cool app duds!
