Tired of being tracked online? We can help. At DuckDuckGo, we believe online privacy should be simple.

DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials comes packed with best-in-class privacy essentials and makes browsing in Safari even faster.

Escape Online Tracking — automatically block hidden third-party trackers we can find lurking on websites you visit, which stops the companies behind those trackers from collecting and selling your data.
Decode Privacy — each site you visit gets a Privacy Grade (A-F) so you can see how protected you are at a glance, and you can even dig into the details to see who we caught trying to track you.

After you install our extension, you'll be asked to enable Tracker Blocking and the Privacy Dashboard within Safari. While the extension doesn't include DuckDuckGo Private Search, it is built into Safari as a default search option. Enabling all three gives you seamless privacy protection.

Privacy, simplified.

I installed this The Privacy Essentials extention, and trust that this DuckDuckGo product works.
However, I do not get any notifications when it does anything or can find any reports indicating how it performs

Developer Response ,

Thanks for your feedback. The dashboard will show you what we've blocked, but if you want more independent verification then you can enable "developer" mode in Safari. Preferences > Advanced and check "Show Develop in the menu bar". Then on any given you page you can select Develop > Show JavaScript Console from Safari's menu. In the console you'll see messages like "Content blocker prevented resource from loading". This is a Safari message. I hope that helps, please reach out if you have any more questions. Thanks!

Was working, but now prevents other extensions from working

This seemed to work for a while after installing it, but something changed. Either the extension changed, or some update to Catalina broke it. Now, when I launch Safari, the only extension that loads and stays active is one of the DuckDuckGo extensions. My other DuckDuckGo extension (sorry, I cannot recall which one is which) is off, and stays off, and my two ad blocker extension also get turned off and I cannot turn them back on.

I had no idea what might be causing it, but since only DuckDuckGo was active, I deleted the extensions and the app. And now, everything else works. So, something isn't right. Thus, 2 stars, and uninstalled.

Allowed Many Cookies to be Placed

I installed DuckDuckGo thinking it would provide me with some protection. And what it did was the exact opposite. It kept 45 cookies on my Mac. This is after I closed Safari, and reopened it. Then I checked. An easier fix is to delete your CACHE and history. Gone. And then reload DuckDuckGo. But you will have to do this frequently. It only takes 15 seconds so I do not mind. Developer responded: and they said that DukDuckGo does not delete cookies. I had thought that was the purpose to make my internet viewing safer and deleting cookies between session was one of the things that make a difference. Do it my way and it is easier to control who gets to see what in your browser history.

Developer Response ,

Hi there! Our Safari extension doesn't actually manage cookies but there is a setting in Safari (Preferences > Privacy) that you can enable to block all cookies within your browser. Please give that a try and let us know if that helps. Thanks!
