Great learning app, WHY so expensive??

I have been learning Chinese for a few years now, and have been using AnkiDroid which I also really like. But this app is better in that it shows you both sides of the flash card so you learn both ways. Plus it speaks the Chinese word so I can work on listening skill. Overall 5 stars! But why so EXPENSIVE?!? I have no problem spending money to learn another language, but I’m not going to pay your outrageous price. If it was cheaper I would buy it. Plus it’s annual? Your CEO must need a hefty bonus.

Developer Response ,

Hello, the subscription is possible monthly, not only annually. As for the price, creating and maintaining a great app costs money and the subscription helps us keep the lights on and deliver exciting new features. Hope that makes sense and thanks for the nice feedback!🙌😊

Please let us change review frequency! Otherwise amazing app

TLDR: Incredible app! Repetition intervals are pretty absurd (2 days -> 2 weeks -> 2 months). App does crash, but it’s not a big deal just don’t click on the fire in the mammoth’s habitat.

This app is soooo amazing! It’s got great built in abilities to review and find content in common and obscure languages alike! It really fills a gap that no other app or software I’ve found has filled when it comes to getting exposure to media in your language of choice.

When it comes to learning languages this app kicks Anki’s booty, but I have to take away one star because it lacks the ability to change the intervals between seeing cards again. Be warned when you review a card after the 2 day interval it jumps straight to 2 weeks and then 2 months which in my opinion is a big oof… especially if you are learning a language with some wacky spelling like English or Norwegian.

Also, the app does consistently break if you open the little rewards screen that shows what the next reward is for being active on the app. (You probably won’t ever even find this screen if you aren’t looking for it though, so it’s not a big deal) All you have to do is close and reopen the app which takes 2 seconds and really isn’t as big of a deal.

Crashes a lot and doesn't let me access filter

Crashes when I try to open it, crashes when I do the listening exercise, I paid for a year subscription and after a week I can't access the filter, the app suddenly thinks I don't have a subscription even though it shows that I have one. But when it's working here's what I think:

Good things:
-TTS is not bad
-when you add a word the definition auto fills in and usually a picture to go with it.
-You can filter to only listen to the cards (although you are interrupted with a matching exercise now and then)
-You can add a sample sentence that you can optionally listen to as you review your cards
-not very expensive

Needs improvement:
- you can't set a filter to show the front of the card first (you can set it to show the back)
- you can't set a filter to not make you do the matching exercises
- you can only make one deck per language
- as I've mentioned it crashes a lot and I'm having access issues currently
- no monthly subscription? I wanted to try it out and got charged for a whole year but maybe that was my mistake?
