Description
Dystopia is a fast, powerful, and accessible app for Reddit.
Packed full of creature comforts like a beautiful media viewer and power user features like full keyboard navigation and a built-in command interface, Dystopia is a great way to use Reddit whether you're new to the site or have been there since the dark ages (back when the Narwhal was Baconing at Midnight). Upvote with just a flick, enjoy real-time chat to quickly hash things out privately, get notified when someone replies to your comments, and submit your own images and posts all without leaving the app.
Dystopia is meant to be enjoyed by everyone; whether you like to use your device with a larger font size, VoiceOver, a braille reader, or Switch Control, Dystopia is convenient and natural to use.
Ratings and Reviews
Potential
It’s getting 4 stars for now because there’s potential here. It doesn’t take much to be better than the dumpster fire that is the default Reddit app, this one is off to a good start. If it ends up 1/10 as good as Apollo it’ll still be 1000 times better than the default app. If it gets to that 1/10 level, I’ll definitely bump to five stars. I have high hopes, although I also fully expect Reddit to find an excuse to kill this off too.
Basic but delightfully usable bridge until Reddit’s replacement arrives
So Reddit decided the best way to save itself was to kill itself. A corporate behavior that seems to be spreading. Surprise is a core part of their strategy, forcing people onto their bloated and flashy excuse for an app. So current alternatives are limited, both in terms of apps and platforms.
But reddit can’t sell visual ads to people with vision difficulties, so making their own app accessible would just waste resources. And they will get sued if they dont. What to do, what to do… ah yes, be friendly with the few apps that don’t monetise and are already accessible!
Enter Dystopia: 1) install this app to maintain a clean lightweight experience with your important Reddit communities, 2) wait for r/redditalternatives to develop and mature (including good apps), 3) migrate over and help those communities to grow then 4) leave reddit alone to think about their choices.
Really good start
Firstly I hope we get some updates soon. The things that would be great are have the alphabet on the right side like Apollo did so you can quickly get to where you want to go. Other big thing is to have it show what subreddit it’s from when scrolling through the front page in a different location cause it kinda just blends in and is hard to read
