EVERYONE GETS AN EARFUL
The current market is saturated with text-to-speech apps that cost upwards of $150/year to use, are plastered with ads, or have time limits. We created Earful as a free alternative for anyone to use text-to-speech to listen to articles right within their browser. Whether you’re a student that processes better with auditory senses, a mom trying to “read” the latest article on the New York Times in the middle of the night while rocking a baby to sleep, or a business person keeping an eye on the latest trends - Earful is here to help.

Earful works best with articles, and it's not optimized for reading other websites like stores, search engines, etc. On-device accessibility features are best suited for those purposes.

best safari tts extension i’ve found

best safari tts extension i’ve found, also allows me to play this alongside other media, but i’d like to be able to adjust the volume relative to the media being played alongside

Is long pressing on the button supported in iOS?

I’ve got a suggestion. Is it possible to have the button support long pressing? It’s my idea long pressing for say 8 seconds would open a simple dialog to have Earful hidden on a site.

Long press and you’re asked if you want the current site hidden. If you say yes it’s then added to the listing of excluded sites. You’re asked to reload the current page. Three simple steps and the page is excluded.

If that’s not possible maybe be able to launch the app itself from inside of Safari? You would first manually have to copy the url from Safari.

Also I would like to be able to edit or remove sites from the exclusion list. Say I misspelled the site name or pasting it in included errors.

Would like to be able to export the exclusion list to be able to share them with others.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback! We've added a feature to disable Earful on specific sites, and have automatically disabled it on some common streaming websites.

Improvement

I would suggest actually having not just a button with only play and pause, but have it where you can click rewind and forward in increments. The instructions currently say if you want to start at a specific place, select the text and then push play. I paused it and selected text because I wanted to skip the text it was reading. When I pushed play after selecting the text, it didn’t read the selected text. It continued where it was currently reading. I refreshed the page, selected the text I wanted it to start at. It started reading from the beginning.
