Wow

Much time went into this app. The idea that map packs and Atlas packs are pay to me is very much expected. I have worked doing graphics for an app company so I do a bit about the dev time with apps. This app is big and much time went into making it. You get your moneys worth... easily. The lite version is cool, the pay version has so much better graphics it is worth it to get tha pay version. As far as processing, on an 2017 imac i7 - spanning accross a 5k and 4k monitors (a pretty heavy lift) - in "low power mode" with all options ticked and resolution at the highest setting, activity monitor CPU hit is about 12% - it can go all the way up to 25% in "high power mode" with all the bells and whistles activated - which may sound high but considering the HD graphics, motion and how much info it conveys, I think they did a great job. There is a "hide wallpaper" selection in the dropdown which is useful if you are needing more CPU which brings the app to near zero cpu usage. It's not often apps are done this well and for money it is a bargin in my opinion. No regrets here.

Magnificent Brilliant!

If you are a geography or astronomy enthusiast -- or you just have a genuine appreciation of this planet that hosts all life as we know it -- you will love Earth 3D. I only discovered it a few days ago, and I can attest that I will never ever change my screen saver or wallpaper again. I wish I had found this application years ago. Not only does Earth 3D provide a fascinating perspective of our planet as it rotates, you can choose which format or mode you would like to see (i.e. Natural View, World Wonders, etc.). There is plenty of factual information to be enjoyed. Also, if you don't want to watch the marvelous sequence of the earth's rotation, you can select the "Interactive" mode and use your mouse to manually rotate the earth and learn about all its features. It's just as educational as it is entertaining. Earth 3D is a beautiful, animated simulation of what our planet looks like to our astronauts in outer space. Highly recommended for both young children and adults. Bravo!

Earth 3D great for grownups, however...

This is a fantastic live background and the interactive feature makes it even richer. I love it, have zero complaints about it, but do have one suggestion.

My 4 year old, who is very map-savvy, immediately wanted to go to the north pole to find out PRECISELY where santa claus lived. I don't see a "santa marker" here, so i just told her that nobody really knows exactly where, etc. But that would be a really cool feature that parents (And, I suppose, general Santa enthusiasts) could turn on.

Not in any way a big deal at all. But it would be cool for parents who are trying to get their kids interested (or enrich their kids' interest) in geography.
