Major photography by Robert F. Myers (www.seaclicks.com) & Kevin Bryant (www.flickr.com/photos/mentalblock). Text and design by John Hoover, author of Hawaii's best-selling marine life ID books: The Ultimate Guide to Hawaiian Reef Fishes, and: Hawaii's Sea Creatures. Check them out on Amazon.

Note: This is a basic "Fish ID 101" type app. If you are a pro and need complete coverage of all 600+ species, I recommend the book "Reef Fish ID" by Paul Humann and Ned DeLoach.

Easy and informative!

I love the function of this app. I can quickly find what I’m looking for in a variety of ways—shape, color, name, etc. It doesn’t cover every species known to man, but does a great job of covering the fish you are most likely to see in the Caribbean. Easy to read. Not too much scientific mumbo-jumbo. I also enjoy the attached comments that give you additional info about size and behaviors. Thank you for creating an informative and easy-to-use app! Hope it continues to evolve. Would love to see it expanded to include the most common corals.

Thanks for the great review! I’ll think about adding corals, though might require another dive trip to the Caribbean :)

Best fish ID app! Great pictures & easy to use

We snorkel & scuba a lot, and were pleased to find this inexpensive but high quality ID app for the Caribbean area. The pictures are superb, and a clever system helps you zero in on a fish based on criteria like color and shape. It has improved our ability to recognize and discuss the fish we see. Recommended.

Sailing the VI

We sail the USVI & BVI 7-8 weeks a year. As much as we love being on the water, we enjoy the adventures under the water so much as well! This app has been a wonderful addition to my travels as I can search & mark fish I discover. Such a very helpful app and has been beneficial in identifying so many beautiful creatures!

Developer Response ,

Thanks, SuzTu! Let me know if you saw any fish that aren’t yet in the app and I’ll be happy to add them. Maybe I’ll do corals and creatures sometime down the line - John
