Amazing hardware, Poor app
The hardware is pretty amazing, and allows a single person or small crew to achieve some really remarkable and precise shots. But the app needs a ton of work!
We just wrapped a 4 day shoot that should have taken 2 days, but we had so many problems with the app crashing we had to extend the shoot by 2 more days! We had to give up using it on iPad, the app simply crashes, loses connection to the JibOne and other pieces, it throws errors in the middle of shots and asks the user to report bugs, etc. The dark UI is ok for studio work but is impossible to use outside on a bright day.
On iPhone, the app is much more stable, but the overall UI/UX is simply horrible. For an expensive product sold on precision and repeatability, the precision of the controls on the app are horrible! Adjusting focus, making small position adjustments, don’t even bother trying to use the app. Touch targets in the UI are woefully undersized, progress indicators during a move have poor contrast, controls for multi shot sequences are unusable. Speed and easing slides are imprecise. Once a move completes there is no way to look at the app and tell which position the hardware is still in.
They do sell a dedicated remote, but you can either use the app or the remote, not both and not all of their gear will bind to the remote which makes it useless. Also the remote doesn’t allow the user to set all of the controls, forcing you back to the app.
Please Edelkrone, fix your app, especially for iPad! Please release an API so we could build our own app to control the equipment. Also, build a real hardware controller for your system; the remote is a joke, perhaps integrate the remote into the App so its part of the system.
So much potential, such poor execution.
Greatly improved app
Excellent improvements and listening to customers: 1. Now can skip firmware updates and actually review what they are about 2. App seems more robust than before 3. Web Control via link Adapter 4. Hardware controller option 5. New focus motor usable stand-alone 6. API! We like where they are going now. Things that would be great to see: 1. Instant path still missing for Dolly… 2. 6 dof cinema robot 3. Hardware thumb wheels for focus motor
Cmon developers. You charge more than a washer dryer for this device and have a extremely lousy app that’s frustrating and not ready for professional work. You really need pros to be giving you feedback on your beta product.
