Edelman Financial Engines has been named the #1 Independent Financial Advisory Firm in the nation, four years in a row.

Awarded each September between 2018 and 2021, the “Top 100 Independent Advisory Firm” rankings issued by Barron’s are qualitative and quantitative, and include assets managed, revenue generated, regulatory record, staffing levels and diversity, technology spending and succession planning, and based on data within a 12-month period. Compensation paid for use and distribution of the rating. Investor experience and returns are not considered.

The 2018 ranking refers to Edelman Financial Services, LLC, which combined its advisory business in its entirety with Financial Engines Advisors L.L.C. (FEA) in November 2018. For the same survey, FEA received a pre-combination ranking of 12th.

Average

I could be completely wrong and not know what I'm talking about, but I feel like there could be more information that applies directly to my account with easy accessibility, and for a new investor with little experience it is a little hard to understand. For instance I see how much the account is valued at but how much money came out of my paycheck to build my 401k. Meaning I would possibly want to see 3 charts. My contributions, the companies contributions, and a gain/loss chart strictly from the market value. As is the only chart when I see growth, I’m not sure if it’s from my most recent contributions or from market value increase. The only way I could figure out that I was losing money was by looking at my contributions on my paystub from adp. Also I see I see the risk factor for my 401k but I would also like to see the risk factor for each of the individual accounts. If my account has 3 holdings let’s say amerifunds small market cap, vanguard high dividend yield, and s and p 500 bonds. And I know my account is very aggressive does that mean all 3 holdings are also the same? Or is it the first 2 are very aggressive and the bonds is not?

Very Good App — Much Improved

I find the app to be very good. It’s easy to change assumptions to see how your retirement plan is going. Much improved over the app when I first downloaded it a few years ago.

It’s always a good idea to get other advice and compare to FE. Also, it’s never a good idea to rebalance more frequently than quarterly or even semi-annually. FE will recommend rebalancing every time you use the app. Be disciplined and get the benefits of this very good, powerful app.

New Authentication feature is designed poorly

Was working ok just a few days ago but with the last update to provide two factor - it’s now super buggy to the point that it won’t accept credentials even with multiple password resets. Most iOS users want to use the strong password option where the phone generates a strong password. This is more secure. Especially on an app with financial implications such as this one. Those strong passwords are impossible for the user to capture or write down based on the design of that feature - so we rely on the phone to save it in the password bank. Some apps are seemingly poorly designed so that the phone isn’t able to save the password after you pick the strong password option - so unless you use a “user made up” password that you can just remember or write down, you are stuck unable to login using the phone generated strong password. Is that an iOS issue or the app? I’d say it works 99 percent of the time for most sites/apps so something tells me the design of this app didn’t provide for this strong password feature on iPhones - or at least it wasn’t tested to ensure it works …
