Fantastic! A must have for Hawaii Volcanoes National Park!
If you are visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, this app is an essential companion to truly getting a feel for the dynamic, beautiful, and destructive past of Kilauea. Rather than the rather dry signage at each stop, Eruption Lens allows you to stand at a view point, and see what past eruptions would have looked like from that spot. The combination of augmented reality (AR), videos, time lapses, and stunning imagery with the historical and geological facts and insights. Standing at the Jagger Museum overlook, and holding your phone up to the sky to see the towering eruptions of the past is one of the coolest and most humbling usages of AR I have ever seen.
The one thing I appreciate about this app is that you leave the national park with a more intimate feel for the volcano and how it has evolved over time. Give it a shot!
Note: Another bonus. If the park is closed, or if you want to revisit the park after you have left, you can always visit virtually.
Philip Ong good on ya!
Mahalo for sharing your passion for geology in a creative and interactive way. The Kilauea action and Volcano area contains some amazing history and there is so much I had wanted to know more about regarding the different eruptions over the years! Even though the latest action has waned- this app is a reminder of just how dynamic Kilauea is. It won’t be long before a new event captivates!
I love this!
Even when I’m not in Hawaii I can still do the virtual tour and see the eruptions. So cool! I’ve learned so much from you on the current eruption and look forward to your updates. I can’t wait to see what you do with fissure 8. Thank you!
