Worked very well in Bahamas

We recently vacationed in a part of the Bahamas where local SIM cards are not readily available. I used this app to purchase a 15 day plan a couple of days before we left. I did not need to have the SIM card installed at the time I made the purchase. I installed the SIM card during the flight over and the service worked very well the whole time we were there. I was even able to use it for data while we were in the Miami airport on the way back before I had a chance to change the Sim card again. The app is not completely self-explanatory, but it was certainly usable. I’ll certainly be using it again.

Great for land but useless for Crusing

I purchased the GigSky plan for cruising over Mothers Fay weekend ON MSC Seashore (a cruise line they say is covered). First of all, it’s not huge savings over the MSC internet cost, I save about $10. Sadly, I had no connection while on the ship at all! Nothing would load, no messages on What’sApp, no apps worked (including GigSky), but once we arrived in the Bahamas it was a fast and reliable connection. Now, the FAQs had said the internet wouldn’t work with miles of the shore, which it didn’t. Once out yo sea, I restarted my phone hoping it would connect and work. My phone said it was on the GigSky network but nothing worked. After spending two nights disconnected (I have a young puppy and sick friend I wanted to check in with regularly), I switched to AT& T cruise at sea which was slow but at least worked. This GigSky purchase originally save me $10 but cost me an additional $40 than I was expecting to spend.

Bottom line, if you’re traveling abroad, I think it’s a great and easy eSIM to use, but DO NOT use this for a cruise. Not worth it!

It works, but why won’t you let people turn sale notifications off?

There are dozens of eSIM operators out there. If you’re using this app, it’s because you have a Visa card and are using a specific perk or discount, and/or because this app has unique cruise line and airline eSIM packages. Only the cruise ones make sense to be completely honest.

The app itself is pretty jank and ugly. The app that Mastercard sponsors (that I’ve used before) is so much nicer, but even outside of the credit card sponsorship game there’s so many nicer apps. This one seems to be coasting.

Which is why it’s so bothersome that there’s no functionality to turn off the incessant sale notifications. Get ready to get notified about eSIM fire sales every other day from this app, because they’re quite literally always having one. And there’s no way to turn those off, despite them notifying you about when your eSIM plan is about to expire, and presumably when you reach your data cap. In fact, there’s no settings tab in this app at all. Bonkers.

Works well but coverage varies

I have been using Gigsky service for several years and generally I would recommend it over buying a local SIM with a few caveats.

GigSky is preferred if:
- you travel to different countries
- your data usage is moderate
- you check coverage before buying a plan
- you do not use iPhone Wi-Fi hot spot

Not advised if:
- you travel mostly to the same country
- you need over 1GB per week
- you do want want to change SIMs
- you need to use multiple devices

How to check coverage: arrive to the country of your destination and insert GigSky SIM into your phone. Wait a few minutes, you may need to restart the phone or at least enable and then disable airplane mode. Observe the carrier and data signals. If you are happy with signal and data then purchase a plan - typically you do not need Wi-Fi to buy data in the app however you *must have credit card on file* already. Use your card payment - Apple and Google payments work only on Wi-Fi.

GigSky introduced LTE SIMs last year. If you have an old SIM it is worth upgrading.

iPhone disabled Hot Spot feature is my biggest disappointment with this service. GigSky support claims it is controlled by Apple but really GigSky need to take charge to fix this problem. You cannot use USB sharing either.

My results by destination:
- Playa De Carmen, Mexico: no coverage
- Sao Miguel, Portugal: excellent, LTE
- Venice/Bologna, Italy: excellent, LTE

A Faulty App

The APP will not function as designed when you have multiple data plans purchased. Ideally one can switch from one plan to another depending on the specific location within your data plan covers by tapping on the plan listed. However, this is not the case. Once a data plan has started, the rest of other data plans are deemed inaccessible. Contacted GigSky numerous times but kept giving me the go around but repeatedly asking the same information as their agents don’t collaborate with the follow up emails n asked the same thing from me over n over again. Do not buy. I wasted my money on a data plan that never works as promised. I was told to get a refund, but need to escalate the matter to the management level for approval. This is a waste of time trying to get help and keep emailing for technical assistance as nothing gets resolved. Extremely disappointed with the APP n the customer service from SkyGig.

Done with GigSky—LTE coverage is poor

I’ve been using GigSky routinely since the service was possible on the iPhone XS, first on that device then the 11 and then the 12. I’ve used it dozens of times in dozens of countries in Europe, Asia, North America, and South America. But I’m giving up on GigSky because the LTE coverage is spotty and often my phone is on 3G while my work mobile, which is roaming on the local network, at full bars on LTE. I’m tired of paying LTE rates for 3G service.

Sending a complaint to GigSky results in a circular discussion where I have to provide screenshots of the map where I’m standing and a variety of other information. Of course by the time GigSky replies I’m already in a new spot where it also doesn’t work. I’m tired of having to do so much work to prove that the coverage is poor, which GigSky already knows, and in dealing with excuses instead of solutions. Bye, GigSky. I’m off to FlexiroamX and Truphone.

Many years of great service

I began using GigSky about 6 years ago on a business trip to Europe to get data for my cellular-enabled iPad Pro. It worked so well, and was priced so reasonably, that it quickly became my "go to" for my iPad for all my subsequent Europe trips as well as travel into Canada. I've had only one problem with the service - many years ago - when I needed to contact their support with getting my cellular data connectivity to work. They were very responsive and resolved my issue in minutes - it had been user error. Highly recommended.

Inadequate setup documentation, weak support

It was extremely easy to purchase a data plan for Latin America. However, determining whether it had been configured properly before departure was much more difficult. The configuration itself was somewhat bewildering because of how fast the information went by. (Also I was unfamiliar with all the choices that need to be made when using an eSim.) As a result, I interrupted the process and then was left confused about whether things were working. I see two distinct signal strengths which suggest things are fine, but the app it’s self reports “Network not connected”.

The support phone line appears completely overburdened with very long wait times for response. I signed up for a call back hours ago.

It’s possible this was money down the tubes, and I won’t know until I reach Chile.

App is great; roaming was still patchy

Let me start by saying that this is a wonderful product. I have been using T-Mobile and found their global roaming 15Gb LTE for $50 to be a decent value. Sadly, I travel too frequently for T-Mobile’s taste so I needed to look for something else. I was super happy to find this and took it for a spin in Malaysia and Singapore. Setting it up as eSIM was a breeze (not even T-Mobile can do that!). However, in Malaysia the data didn’t really work and when it did, it wasn’t even 3G, let alone LTE/ 4G. Things were better in Singapore, but still had times when wasn’t connecting. I hope they can continue to improve - would really love to use them every month!

Worked exactly as intended

Installed, setup and selected the Asia Pacific data plan before my departure. Upon arrival, switched over to GigSky and held my breath that this would work. Successfully located 5G service! Very pleased that it worked exactly as intended as I hopped through multiple countries in the region.
The initial setup & install process could be a little more clear so I could at least understand why some people may have had some difficulties. The default plan name in the eSim settings is something vague like “cellular “, so it has the potential to be confusing.
