Much better looking but flawed...
ESPN app has gotten better. Better lay out and easier to use to an extent. The ESPN+ feature/subscription is not. I have all my Apple devices signed in to the same Apple ID. yet he ESPN TVOS app does not play content. Any of it. I can select something I want to watch but when I click “watch”. Nothing happens. It is signed in with my ESPN sign on info, just like my phone yet they seem to be operating independently of each other. The TVOS app must have signed itself out recently because I opened it last night to watch a 30for30 and I had to “subscribe” all over again. I had already done that a couple of weeks ago. I haven’t found much to complain about in the iOS version and I end up having to use AirPlay to stream content from my phone to Apple TV instead of just being able to play it directly through the TVOS version and that’s a drag. It doesn’t always work well, quits if I get a call while streaming and often gives me a hard time just getting something to start playing. I hope you all figure out what’s going on with the TVOS versions and fix it soon. Thanks. For now, 2 stars. I don’t want to sit in my living room and watch ESPN on my phone with my 65” tv dormant in front of me. Pretee dorky.
PLEASE STOP TURNING ON BREAKING NEWS ALERTS
This app is only effective if you want to know scores after the fact and look them up personally. Whenever there is a game I am interested in, I never get alerts for it despite having the team alerts set up as well as the alerts for the specific game. I have to go into the app, knowing when the game has started, and check the scores that way. And even then, the scores are at least 10 minutes, if not more, behind live broadcasts. I never get final alerts when all I care about is the final score, I must look those up personally as well. And yet, despite never getting alerts for the things I want to know, every few days the “breaking alerts” toggle is switched on without my knowledge or permission and no matter how many times I actively turn it off. So I don’t get alerts for the things I want and instead get ridiculously annoying and fairly frequent alerts for things I have absolutely no interest in. Please stop automatically turning this option on, I doubt it’s a desired feature for most of your users and the ones that do want it, I’m sure can work out how to turn it on just fine. And please fix your notification system.
This app uses bad technology to govern blackouts
I was blacked out from watching the Seattle Sounders vs Colorado Rapids game Saturday night. I live two and one-half hour drive from Seattle. The next day I went to a bar to watch the Timbers game with several soccer friends and made a comment about being blacked out. My friends all watched the game making comments about the game itself. I asked how they watched it, for Seattle games are not televised here, they all watched it on ESPN+!? All from the same community and I was the only one blocked. I just got off the phone with a ESPN+ representative and he told me it was probably due to the isp signal from my wireless provider and he could do nothing about it. I said that was not correct I said ESPN+ can do something about it and as a customer telling me your not able to do anything about it is unacceptable. I told him he needs to inform someone of the issue or it will never be addressed. He was a bit taken back that I suggested he take further action. I am not confident in this service. I pay my bill and they do not want to work to keep the customers happy with their product.
