Issues and naggy

Tried out the free version to decide if I wanted the paid one. The app can’t tell the difference between an Ethernet connection and USB tethering to an iPhone or iPad. They are not the same. That makes this app far less useful. The app has a non-native dialog that looks a little like a native macOS notification but it is placed on the wrong part of the screen. That dialog is simply a request to rate the app and is not useful to the user. After clicking on the dialog to come here it reappeared again. It moved around strangely and was not in the right position on the screen. I thought the App Store had rules against pestering users for reviews.

I live with lots of lightning. Lots. I have to unplug things when it gets bad or risk losing them (been there, done that). I have a network adapter for ethernet in my office that is unplggued along with the server and other equipment. When the storms pass, I don't always remember to turn on the ethernet adapter. "So," I thinks to myself, "what you need is a status icon that will show when *ethernet* is not connected." Seems simple enough. Search for it in the App store and find Ethernet Status.Tried free version and well, it doesn't do the one thing it says it does, not exactly. It shows whether your connected to *anything* and have access. I could pay to get the upgraded version but that requires I click on the status icon to determine wht I am connected to, but I just want an icon that shows whether I am connected to ethernet or not. Nothing else. No extra steps. That's it. This app should be named Network Status Lite. With that said, it seemed to do the intended, if misnomered, job adequately (tested by unplugging ethernet cable at the machine). I might have gone to 4 stars if the name had matched the behavior more closely.

Using the App without Pro

This app does exactly what I needed it to do.The only issue that i have noticied is that it always requires input during startup and can take away the focus from other applications. My view is that this app should always stay in the background as an indicator and not require input unless a menu item or feature has been manually activated.The nagging to rate was a minor inconvenience and is the reason that i am rating this application now.

Does what it says on the tin

This app puts a icon on my status bar that I can click to see if my ethernet is working, its speed, and if it's the primary network interface or not. That's basically all I need (I'd prefer if the connection status were visible on the app icon without clicking it, but I think that's a paid feature?)Zero problems with the app and I've been using it for a couple years.
