Ratings and ReviewsSee All
It’s cliche but I really don’t write reviews ever. I’ve recently been testing 4 or 5 different habit trackers and then found this one and realized my search was over. It has worked flawlessly for me thus far and the user interface truly is gorgeous. I needed something that had a web UI since I spend most my time working with 4 monitors and this has worked great between my windows desktop, iPad, and iPhone. The bright sharp colors motivate me to stick to my habits in order to fill it up while the dark mode is nice and easy on my eyes. Also love the streak counters on the side so I can see them without having to go searching. Signed up for a year and it was worth every dollar.
Developer jacked up the prices
Price went from $1/month to $5/month, or from $12/year to $30/year. Most of the “worth it” reviews reflect the original pricing. No clue why the developer suddenly felt the app was worth 3x the price, and moreover, I’m just sad that apps that once went for a one time purchase of $3 to $5 are now trying to charge the same monthly. I blame Apple for that... greedy!
UPDATE: Developer responded below that the price had to go to because the app wasn’t sustainable. That’s the problem with many app developers today. They want to write one app, get customers, then raise the price. They’ve given up on making other apps and adding more value to draw in more customers. Instead, they’re exploiting their one success story and raising prices for the few who are willing to stick around. It’s happening over and over and over. $4 calendar utilities turning into $20 calendar utilities for a “polish” upgrade, turning into $30/year subscriptions - for a calendar utility.
At the end of the day, if you feel like an app that replicates what you can do with a spreadsheet is worth $60/year, go for it. But this sort of price jacking is ruining the App Store, slowly, through attrition. Maybe the balance sheets don’t yet reflect it, but they will.
Developer Response ,
Thanks for your review! It is true the app originally costed $12/y. This is when the app was way more basic (no synchronisation, no support for all devices, no Learn/challenges section, no overview, etc). The main reason for the price change, however, is to make the business sustainable. At $12/year (from which I roughly get 50% after cuts and tax) made it impossible for me to work on it any further. The app wouldn't exist. I assume that's the very same reason for which other apps are changing their prices too. I understand your complain but really, this is far from greed. Reviewing an independent business with 1-star just because of a price change seems unfair and it makes our job even harder. If you don't think an app that helps you personally grow is worth the money, then you are free not to buy it, but please don't make assumptions without having the proper information. I am happy to talk about it at email@example.com in case you need more specific details! :)
REPLY TO UPDATE: I understand your concerns, honestly (I'm a user of many other apps myself). I'm happy to have a healthy discussion on the matter but I'm afraid answering you here will do me more harm than good (since I'm the "bad guy" for you). First and foremost, I don't want to work on other apps because this is my project I want to work and improve for many years to come. It's truly more work than I can handle already! I completely understand if you don't see the value in the app, but then why waste our time here talking about price? Finally, there must be a reason if many developers are doing it. The market is forcing us to. It's saturday 2am that I am answering this! You think if I was making a huge living I'd be here now caring about your feedback? :)Finally, I want to say that my goal is to be able to give many more features for free as soon as I can afford it. I want to help as many people as possible to personally grow and form good habits! I know I'll find roadblocks along the way, but this won't stop me from working on the app a little bit, every day! :)
My email firstname.lastname@example.org is always open to everyone!
(If you read this first part, please read all!) With a simple app such as this, there really shouldn’t even be a price. At least not one like $30 per year. Even though it’s a small price overall, maybe the app should just cost a small $5 fee as a one time purchase. I downloaded the app because I thought it was going to be a good habit tracker. Then, after finding out I can only track 3 habits max unless I purchase the “premium” package.... not worth it. I can just find another app that’ll be free or of very little cost.
(I’m leaving my previous comment so it’ll remind me not to submit such a critical and pointless review)
After reading others reviews and much consideration, I’ve decided to “amend” my previous review. I completely understand now that apps do cost money, not just to create, but also to run, maintain, and update and upgrade. I appreciate all the work that has been put into this app! It really is a great Habit Tracking app that is well developed and designed.
I was angry that I couldn’t find a simple app that I could download and use that was free and could simply track like 5 to 10 habits. Most of the apps I’ve found only track 3 and for a limited time because of the cost to run the app. It’s completely understandable and I apologize for being so stupid with my first posting of my review. $30 for an entire year is really a STEAL for any user wanting a solid app such as this one!!
Developer Response ,
Thank you for your review! I'm sorry that you didn't find the app valuable. Apps, as any other product, should not be valued by their complexity but by the value they bring you. If Everyday helps you change your behaviour, then $30 will be a bargain, if it doesn't, it will be a rip off. Unfortunately, I need to charge to be able to afford working on it, but I hope I can give more for free in the future :) I hope you can find an app that helps you!
Updated reply: I really appreciate your review update. Says much about you and your ability to grow! I really do hope the app will help you and that I'll be able to make it more accessible for everyone in the future! :)
