Extract, Filter & Export PDFs

Extract emails from complex PDF records, filter them by participant and name and export clean standalone or consolidated PDF files for review, audit, or case preparation. Excerpt - Email Extraction and Export Utility Excerpt is a professional document processing tool that deconstructs complex PDF email records into clean, structured and standalone PDF files - ready for academic review, audit, legal discovery or case preparation. Whether you are preparing exhibits for litigation, compiling correspondence records for corporate governance, supporting an internal HR investigation or isolating communications for forensic accounting and academic research, Excerpt gives you precise control over what gets extracted and how it gets packaged. By cleanly separating discourse by participant and role, Excerpt also can also serve as an essential data-preparation layer for Critical Discourse Analysis, Forensic Linguistics and Legal Informatics - Excerpt provides the structural isolation required in many use cases. Available on Mac, iPad, and iPhone. HOW IT WORKS Excerpt guides you through a four-step workflow: STEP 1 - UPLOAD YOUR PDF DOCUMENTS Select one or more PDF files containing email records. Excerpt supports Auto-Detect, Gmail, Outlook, and Mixed Thread source formats, automatically calibrating its extraction engine to match the structural footprint of your documents. STEP 2 - AUTOMATIC EMAIL BOUNDARY DETECTION Once uploaded, Excerpt’s extraction engine maps the document structure, identifies individual email boundaries, and compiles a full list of detected authors and participants. No manual tagging required. STEP 3 - PARTICIPANT AND ROLE FILTERING Define exactly what gets extracted. For each participant detected in the email thread, choose which discourse roles to isolate: • Sent - emails directly authored by the participant • To - emails specifically directed at the participant • CC - emails the participant was copied on Excerpt eliminates duplicates so that PDF's are generated more than once - even when a participant appears in multiple roles across the same thread. STEP 4 - EXPORT Choose your export format: • One PDF per Email - generates a distinct, standalone PDF for every extracted email. Ideal for itemised legal exhibits, compliance filings, and structured discovery packages. • One PDF per Participant - consolidates all selected emails for a given participant into a single chronological PDF. Ideal for audit trails and conduct reviews. Excerpt automatically organises all output files into a clean, labelled master directory, structured by participant name and role category. BUILT FOR • Legal professionals preparing discovery exhibits and case files. • Compliance and governance teams archiving employee correspondence. • Forensic accountants tracing financial directives and narrative shifts. • Forensic linguists and academics applying Critical Discourse Analysis to isolate and study linguistic manipulation. • Legal Informatics developers preparing clean datasets to operationalise text into reproducible risk vectors and scoring systems. All processing happens locally on your device. No data is uploaded to any server.
