Description

Fair Art Fair is a new app-based digital destination for artists, collectors, curators, and the art curious. Conceived, designed, and led by artists, Fair Art Fair offers the tools, connections, and possibilities for building a fairer, more transparent art world.
Pioneering in its model, Fair Art Fair is a subscription-based app founded on a circular economy, where all funds go directly back to artists. Its features are extensive and all-encompassing. Designed with four distinct users – Artists, Art Lovers, Curators and Art Curious – Fair Art Fair allows you to organise, showcase, buy and sell artwork, as well as discover and connect directly with peer-validated artists. This first-of-its-kind mobile and web app allows subscribers to become part of a global community, supporting and connecting artists with collectors, curators and anyone with a passion or interest in art. The platform also hosts a dynamic calendar of virtual exhibitions, available for all users to experience and enjoy.

Worth it

I know the upfront cost of this app might take some by surprise but they don’t take commission from their artists. If you sell work via FAF it pays for itself.

The app itself is awesome! I personally find it to be better than any other art selling platform out there. I’m not a fan of Saatchi or any of platforms that render the work in a fake environment.

FAF showcases the art in the best possible way, similar to the way any top tier gallery would on their own art selling platform, and it’s SO easy to use.

They’re small enough now that artists can really make quality connections with their team, curators, galleries and other artists. I HIGHLY recommend adopting it earlier than later.

Pay $240 first…

I read about this app in the Artnet blog - evil galleries take too much commission from sales, here is the true solution for the artists to get paid without the middle man. I was curious to try it.

The first thing you see upon downloading the app is a prompt to pay a £180 ($240) yearly fee. You don’t even get the opportunity to browse the app and to see how (and if) it actually works. There are no official stats provided as to how much artwork was sold via the app since its inception. There are no authentic testimonials anywhere (well, aside from the obvious PR stuff). But please, give us $240 right now and we promise you…. what exactly?

I’d say it is a hefty fee for a product you know absolutely nothing about aside from a few PR articles online.

Normally, paid apps give you at least a few days of trial period before you decide to commit. And if this is the app that claims to help artists generate sales, I would like to see some numbers upfront. How many artists are on it? How many buyers? How much $ of sold goods since they started? How exactly will you benefit from this?
Well, pay $240 first and then you will (maybe) find out.
