File Date & Time Editor is a native macOS utility for inspecting and batch-editing the creation and modification timestamps on any file or folder.
Drop files or folders into the app window, or use the file picker. The left panel shows your complete file list — searchable by name, filterable by save status, and sortable. The right panel is the date inspector: set creation and modification dates using native macOS date pickers, in either absolute or relative edit mode. Relative mode lets you shift timestamps by a specified number of days from their current values. File attributes — including creation date, modification date, content type, and file size — are displayed in the inspector panel, giving you a complete view of each file's properties.
Before committing any changes, a diff preview table shows you the exact before-and-after dates for every file in the list. Apply changes file by file, or batch-apply to all at once. Batch operations process hundreds of files in a single pass, with a per-file outcome log for audit trails. A confirmation dialog states exactly how many files will be updated before anything is written. The app also guards against accidental data loss: if you navigate away from a file with pending edits, a prompt asks you to confirm before discarding those changes.
Quick adjustment controls let you set a timestamp to the current date and time, nudge it forward or backward by a day, or sync the creation date to match the modification date — and vice versa. Each file displays a live save status indicator showing pending, saving, saved, or failed. A progress view tracks batch operations as they run, and a built-in operation log records every save session with file count and fail count.
For photos, EXIF date reading surfaces the embedded capture date alongside the filesystem timestamps. Session persistence restores your file list when you reopen the app. After saving, Reveal in Finder takes you directly to the updated files.
For photographers, this means correcting the capture date on imported scans without touching EXIF-embedded data separately. For archivists, relative mode lets you shift an entire folder's timestamps forward by the exact number of days a project was delayed — in one operation.
Everything runs entirely on your Mac. There are no network calls, no cloud sync, and no accounts required. Your files and their metadata stay local.
