Description
With "File Hash" you can calculate the hash of a file and check the hash specified for a downloadable file.

Whether MD5, SHA-1, SHA256 or SHA-512 - "File Hash" offers a huge variety of options for creating hashes. And the beauty of it is: you do not have to be a shrewd Unix expert! Everything is clear and easy to use via the graphical User Interface.
Check Hash

Many download sites (including apple.com) provide a checksum for the offered downloads. This is in most cases either an MD5 or SHA-1 hash. With "File Hash" you now have the option to verify and check the hash of your downloaded file. Special knowledge is not needed. A fast and secure verification of the downloaded files has never been so easy. This is the only way to verify the integrity of files downloaded from the internet. Protect yourself from tampering during file transmission!

Finally, a hash calculation/verification app that actually works!
This would be the perfect app except for two small things: local documentation on its use (not that it's pretty self-evident after a few minutes of fiddling, but still…), and the red "close" button on the app window does not work. The close button not working is a pretty glaring error. Other than than those two critiques, don't let that stop you from buying this app. It really does work exactly the way you would expect it to. It'll verify the MD5 or SHA256 and many other common hashes in a couple of clicks. VERY CONVENIENT AND USEFUL! I would give this app five stars if not for the two small critiques that I mentioned at the beginning of this review.
Works well
It does what it is supposed to do and works quickly supporting most of the hash methods out there. My only complaint is that you cannot calculate the hash of a folder - only individual files.

I never knew how to verify a checksum until I was pointed at this App on the download page for MAMP.

PS: It might be nice to have a short explanation of how to use this App in the google doc "File Hash Support". It's a bit sad to get pointed to that empty page...
