Catalog any folder in seconds. AI search by content, not name. Export to CSV, Excel, JSON, HTML, PDF. Find duplicates. Verify hashes. 100% on-device.
FileLister scans any folder on your Mac and turns it into a detailed, searchable, exportable catalog of every file inside. It works the way you wish Finder did. All the metadata, all the formats, no limits on the row count of your export.
Photographers cataloging shoots. Archivists generating manifests. Sysadmins auditing storage. Accountants documenting client folders. Developers shipping file inventories with releases. Anyone who has ever needed a real list of what is on their disk.
Search by content, not just by name. FileLister builds a private, on-device index of your files using Apple's Vision and Natural Language frameworks. Type 'photos with mountains' and it finds them. Type 'documents about taxes' and it finds them. Everything happens locally. Your files never leave your Mac.
Every scanned folder gets a unique visual fingerprint, a poster-like graphic that encodes file types, sizes, and dates as color. Share it, save it, compare two folders at a glance.
Create saved searches that update themselves. Photos from 2024 without GPS. PDFs over 50MB modified this month. Videos longer than ten minutes. Smart Collections live in your sidebar and refresh whenever you rescan.
Export to CSV, Excel with embedded thumbnails, JSON flat or nested, HTML with sortable tables, Markdown, PDF reports, plain text trees, and Apple plist XML. CSV follows RFC 4180. Excel files open cleanly in Numbers, Microsoft Excel, and Google Sheets.
Capture over sixty fields per file. EXIF camera data including lens, ISO, aperture, GPS coordinates with one-click Apple Maps link. Audio bit rate, sample rate, codec, duration. Video resolution and bit rate. Document page counts, authors, comments, tags. Spotlight metadata with fallback to direct extraction when Spotlight is disabled.
Compute MD5, SHA-1, and SHA-256 hashes on demand. Generate .sha256 sidecar files for long-term archival. Verify a folder against an existing sidecar to catch silent corruption. The format archivists already use.
External drives, network volumes, and iCloud Drive all work. FileLister uses security-scoped bookmarks so your saved scans keep working between sessions, even on USB drives that disconnect and reconnect.
Right-click any folder in Finder and choose Scan with FileLister. Drag rows out of the table directly into Mail, Numbers, or Notes with the right format for each app.
Full Shortcuts.app support. Scan folders, find duplicates, export reports, all from Automator-style workflows or triggered by Focus modes, calendar events, or hot corners.
Developers can write custom export templates in JavaScript. One function, every row, any format you want.
Scans 100,000 files in under a minute on Apple Silicon. The UI stays responsive while the scan runs, results stream in live, and you can start filtering and exporting before the scan completes.
FileLister is free to download. The free version scans without limits, shows all metadata in-app, and exports up to 500 rows as CSV or unlimited plain text. The Pro upgrade is a one-time $4.99 purchase that unlocks every export format without limits, AI semantic search across full libraries, Smart Collections, hash computation and verification, duplicate detection, folder diff, and custom export scripting.

FileLister collects no data, sends no analytics, makes no network calls. Everything runs on your Mac.

FileLister now goes far beyond listing files.
On-device AI search
• Find files by what's actually in them, not just their names. FileLister reads image content, recognizes text inside photos and scans (OCR), and understands meaning - so searches like "beach photos", "invoice", or "recent screenshots" just work. Everything runs on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded.
Polished PDF export
• Export any file list as a clean, paginated PDF report with headers and columns on every page - ready to print, archive, or share with a client or team.
Saved Reports
• Turn any scan into a one-click report. Save your folders, columns, and filters together, then re-run the whole thing - rescan and export - whenever you need it. Perfect for recurring audits and handoffs.
Powerful scan filters
• Narrow a scan before it runs with wildcard and regex name matching, minimum and maximum file size, and modified or created date ranges. Scan exactly what you care about, faster.
Smarter Smart Collections
• Build live collections with real rules - file size greater than, dates between, ISO, dimensions, and more - and watch them update automatically as you scan.
Reliable duplicate cleanup
• Find duplicates, confirm them with secure hashing, and move the extras to the Trash to reclaim space with confidence.
Faster and more polished
• Large file lists scroll and filter more smoothly, and we've refined the first-run experience and fixed a range of issues across the app.
